Swim
Comments: Slower than usual swim for me. Tried drafting off of several people, but I don't trust others to know where they are going. Have been lead astray by several pairs of "fast feet" in my race experience... What would you do differently?: Not sure. I can't control the wind, so I suppose I should try to get more experience in choppy water? Transition 1
Comments: A leisurely T1. I didn't have much time to set up my transition area to start with....so I just did the best I could with the disorganization and chaos that was my area. What would you do differently?: Arrive EARLIER! I'd have had to get up at 2:00 AM! I don't know... Maybe be a bit more organized. Bike
Comments: I think the bike went fairly well... I was in a combination of the large and small chain ring... I just can't stay out of the big ring. So whenever the course looked flat and the wind was at my back, I was hammering in the big chainring. Got up to 26 mph on some straightaways...that was tempered, of course, by riding 8 mph uphill with the wind in my face on some parts of the course. What would you do differently?: Not much... Maybe hammer a bit more. I've been worried about my knee, so I stayed in the small ring a bit more than I wanted to, but was trying to be smart. Not so sure how that worked out. Transition 2
Comments: So this is where it gets complicated... there are 4 races all taking place at the same time at this venue... a supersprint, a sprint, an olympic, and a half... I'm coming in for T2 on the HIM... there are people standing around transition, from the shorter races... chatting, talking on cellphones, shooting the shit...whatever... while I'm trying to zip in and out... I had to go around several people who were just sort of HANGING OUT! What would you do differently?: DISORGANIZED! Me, the race in general, the whole dang thing! I forgot to untie my running shoes! So there they were, double knotted and all tied up. I had to work the knot loose... and then put each shoe on... and I just got my acrylic nails removed...so my fingernails are weak and short... not the best for picking knots apart. Poor planning on my part. I was obviously in a rush when I was setting up... did not pay attention to many of the details. Run
Comments: Now this is only 4 minutes slower than my last HIM run... which was flat as a pancake. And I was in pain in the lower back, I was tired, and my hips hurt. So, over all, it's not a TERRIBLE effort from me, considering. Not stellar, but my run is what it is. It's my limiter in a big, awful, hairy way. What would you do differently?: Run more. Have less hip pain. Take Advil prior to racing. I don't know what else I could do. Just be faster. Try harder. Maybe I don't try hard enough. I allow myself to walk whenever I want to! Probably lacking in the mental toughness. Post race
Warm down: Crossed the finish line, had my chip removed, ate a shriveled orange quarter, and went to grab my bike. Didn't see anyone I knew or anyone who knew me. What limited your ability to perform faster: Taking the taper too seriously and using it as an excuse to party hard 2x last week...I was out until 230 AM both nights! Unheard of! I think that took a toll on my body...And of course, I wasn't out drinking water. Also I fear I was a bit over trained for this race. Was very tired/borderline exhausted and my enthusiasm was definitely waning. Mentally and physically tired for the season. Event comments: I don't know if I'll do this race again... I've done it 3x now, each time a different distance.... it's a tough tough venue. Lots of hills. It's beautiful, though, and the water is usually clear and beautiful. Tired. Now it's time for some well earned REST!!!! Last updated: 2006-09-04 12:00 AM

Drove to Lake Geneva. Got up very early, jumped in the red convertible and high tailed it up to LG. Got there in time, however, still had to pick up my packet and rack my bike etc etc... stood in line for over an hour doing that. The HIM was supposed to go off at 615 AM. At 617 I was standing in front of a volunteer being body marked. And, according to that volunteer, nearly 50+ other HIM competitors were still without their numbers.
The race start was delayed about an hour.
None. I barely got my wetsuit on and transition area set up and it was time to start swimming!
