Pre-race routine:

Event warmup:

Swam about 100 yds
Swim

Comments:

Very disappointed in the swim. I was planning on a 23 min swim. Couldn’t swim straight at all, was zigzagging all over the place. Never got in a rhythm or felt comfortable. Was 5 min slower than when I did this race 5 yrs ago. Everyone’s times were a bit slower than that year, but I was very disappointed with the time
What would you do differently?:

Open water WIC practice
Transition 1
  • 03m 49s
Comments:

Long run/walk up a very steep hill. Didn’t try to run it all, but passed a couple of people power walking up. Suit got stuck on my heels. Was 40 sec slower than last time.

Comments:

Good ride. Kept it comfortably hard the whole way. Stayed aero for the vast majority of the time. Normalized power was 210W. Was 4min faster than last time, and I felt good the whole way
What would you do differently?:

Nothing

Comments:

Run we not well. Walked a bit of most of the uphills, but never for too long. Ran all of the rest, though. Overall, felt pretty good with it and had a couple of more miles in me if I had needed it. I was only 55 sec slower than last time, soI was pretty pleased given how little I’ve been running. The cool temps really helped.
What would you do differently?:

Nothign
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for v5 min, got a bAnana, changed clothes, and got in the car to drive home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swim navigation was terrible. Otherwise, I was pretty pleased with how everything else went.

Event comments:

Another Endurance Sports Managament race. Another race that started late. Course was well marked. On the run course, though, there were 2 unmanned aid stations that were passed twice apiece. Miles 2/8, and 3/6. On my way out, both had plenty of water cups/gels out on the tables. On the way back, though, at Mile 6, there was no water nor gels. At 8, there were a few gels scattered on the table, and some cups that you could fill yourself. It would’ve been nice to have a person at each table filling up cups. The other stops were fully manned.
