![]() Swim
What would you do differently?: practise more in open water; need to control my breathing early on; all my helpful self talk in pool and practise lake swims is completely inaccessible when in a race sitution, so far. i will: swim more; swim more ow; keep practicing breathing; swim with groups in lake; develop the peaceful, intentional mindset i can summon in pool. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: walked up big hill to tranition; walked through transition; was still reathing too hard; just trying to focus on getting bike together. didn't use socks. ![]() Bike
Comments: after slow 5-8 min struggle to lower hr and slow breathing after disaster swim, settled in and found a groove. felt good here-- didn't even care about getting passed by 2nd lap olys. finally caught up to a few cyclists from my race-- happy with bike leg overall. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: saw my parents and kids here-- collected kisses from my kids before i left. definately helped. ![]() Run
Comments: wasn't prepared for hilly trail running but thoroughly ejoyed it. got a cramp or pull or something in rigt quad in first mile; slowed to walk for a minute or two but slow jugwas better. evetually went away after another mile of running. This run felt better/faster than the last one but I thik it ended up being a bit slower. Not sure how-- mabe hills and trails. ![]() Post race
Event comments: good course; given my inability to keep my face in the water or breath during the swim, i think 500m was too long for me yet. volunteers were great; interesting mix of people competing. this was my first race with men and women; the women were competetive but helpful and friendly; the men were much more serious, uptight and viewing this a a big deal race. really intresting differences. enjoyed this overall-- would do it again.
