Run
Comments: My primary goal was sub 4:00, and I said I'd be really happy if I could get 3:30 or better. I felt fantastic through most of the course. I didn't feel like I was pushing myself real hard, everything felt real smooth. I started out a little in the back, and ended up catching the 3:20 pace group and hung with them for a good portion of the race. Around mile 16 I started getting rumblies in the tumblie, which would come and go for the rest of the race. Around mile 18, my legs started stiffening up. It wasn't cramping, and I think a good portion of my slowing down towards the end was more mental than anything else. That last climb between miles 18-20 really sorta kicked my butt more than I care to admit. And the downhills were killer on my knees at that point, so I barely recovered from the climbs. What would you do differently?: I didn't use any gels on the course, just one before the start. But there was Gatorade at every water stop, and I never felt hungry. However, I might have benefited from something extra later in the race, maybe salt tabs or something along those lines. Need to just get out and run more. Considering this was my first marathon, and I beat my time goals, I'm pretty happy overall. Post race
Warm down: Wandered around aimlessly till I found my family. Stretched some, fixed a blister or two, put on warmer clothes. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not sure. Event comments: Great race, well-organized, AWESOME t-shirt. Would definitely consider doing this again. Last updated: 2006-09-12 12:00 AM

Tried to find Rick (Daremo), but considering I don't know what he looks like, no luck. I met some good-looking woman who started talking to me; she was waiting for someone, too, so we just sorta hung out together for a little bit. Had a gel about 10 minutes before the start.
