  • Comments: This was my first marathon (besides the marathons I did in my two Ironman Triathlons). It was an awesome venue, extremely well organized. The course is tough, but very pretty, the volunteers are great, the Baltimore Police are in full force, weather cooperated and was perfect. Would suggest more signs directing people to the celebration village, bag check and starting line. I never did see the arrows on the road for the starting line. Or a BIG Ballon overhead would help direct runners to various area.

  • Comments: Overall, I felt the organization and logistics of this race was a lot worse this year. I've done this race six times, and this was the worst. At the start line, the pace groups were way to bunched up, and there was a lot of pushing and shoving to try to get into the starting corrall. I eventually had to kick down a temp barrier just to get on the course after the gun went off. After the race, the food lines were ridiculously long. I grabbed some water, beer tickets, and then said forget the food. My cramping legs just couldn't wait in the line. To me, a marathoner not being able to grab some food is unacceptable. I do LOVE that they give free beer at the finish.

  • Comments: This is a well-run race, and is nice in that it is not as crowded as some of the much larger races that I have run. The course is challenging, but it's neat that way. The fans are great, and the volunteers did a good job. A couple of stations seemed a little under-staffed, but that's not the fault of those who were out there doing their best.

  • Comments: I loved this race for my first marathon! Thousands of people were cheering for us all over the course, not just at the Inner Harbor. Even throughout the neighborhoods people were cheering for us, it was so motivating! This was an awesome race. I enjoyed seeing so many of the areas around the city.

  • Comments: Continues to be a great race and growing larger and larger. The amount of people in the half is staggering. Twice what there is in the full marathon. They do a really good job keeping things separated so that it is not a congested cluster F when they merge. I am not sure if I am going to do it again as I now have 5 finishes at the race and while it is nice, it is starting to be wearing not training for it and still trying to have a solid run. Marathon training takes a lot out of you and I haven't seriously trained for one since Jan/Feb in '08. But I got this one done, still finished top 10% overall on almost no training with a heart condition. Final placings were 33/315 for AG, 188/2014 for males, 221/3118 overall finishers. Really not far off of last year even though I was 8 minutes slower! Times were down across the board though because of the weather. Not too shabby.

  • Comments: My daughter, Rebecca ran very well until we hit got to the lake. As I accelerated the pace to get her under 2 hours she lost it. So I slowed down for her but she said she was done. Her minimum training halted her progress but then she works fulltime, is working on her Masters degree and a full social calender tough to fit in running. I truly enjoy our special time together either training on Sunday mornings or in our race. This event was great and very well run. The crowds cheering you on electric. Little funny as I turned the corner just past the Gummy Bear guy, noticed a few urban rodents(rats) chowing down on the dropped gummy's. Was really cool to pass by three of my past employeers shops. Would be cool to have Duff (Ac of Cakes) do cupcakes for us. Need to send him a letter. My cousin David finished his first HM today as well. I inspired him at the Gathering to run and try. He started training serious 4 months ago and finished 2:15. He is hooked and wants us to do the Fred HM in

  • Comments: what a day....lets see where do I start...my phone shut itself off in the middle of the night. So I woke up 30 minutes late. I forgot my fuel belt on the table. And my water bottle for the ride up, in the fridge. I got the baltimore at 730 (race started at 8) and there was NO WHERE TO PARK!! So after driving around for 24.5 minutes I found a place and RAN to the start. I started almost dead last. I passed a ton of people and caught up to Coment (hayle) at the 4:30 Pace Group area about 4 miles into it. We did great for anther 4-5 miles then I started to hurt. I walked through mile 10 water stop and only ran a few times there after. My right knee is killing me still today. Butch said it is my IT band....i was hoping it wasn't. Walking is tough, sitting and or resting is fine. It only really hurts when I put weight on it. So....we will see how the rest of the week turns out. There were areas of the race where the course was noot very well marked. At one point there were a few runner in

  • Comments: This was a great venue and a very well-put-on race. I probably won't return to it, but only because my marathoning challenges have to move on from this point. There are much better races (Marine Corps for instance) that I'd rather do at this time of year. But I defintely recommend this race for a good hilly challenge if you're doing Boston in the next year. It's a great primer as the profile is similar.

  • Comments: Overall, this was a great race for me. At this point in my running "career" I feel like my legs are strong and can get me through the race without a lot of problems. The rate limiting factor for me is simply cardiovasuclar fitness, but hopefully with continued training that will improve. I'm running San Antonio in a month, and if my legs have recovered enough I should do well, since it is much flatter. As for Baltimore, I love the race. The shirt they hand out is UA, so it's one of the best. The medal is cool too, and you can't go wrong with free beer. I also like that the half-ers don't start with the full, but finish with them. I read a race report that said the merge was bad, but at my pace it was seamless. Two years ago it was bad for me, so whatever they changed (both the time and the merge point) worked for me. There were a lot of volunteers, though some of the kids could have used an additional lesson on handing off their cups. No real complaints, though.

  • Comments: Always a great race, and getting bigger each year. It is a challenging course that takes a lot out of you towards the end. This was my 5th year participating in it (4 finishes) and my 7th marathon finish!!

  • Comments: This race was good and well run but lacked a little something. The end was a little anti-climatic for some reason. The tent areas were very crowded and hard to get through. I did the Shamrock Half and thought that race was awesome from start to finish. And please fix that merge - I'm usually a nice easy going competitor but I really wanted to injure some half runners. It's just a frustrating factor to deal with when you have already been running for 15 miles and have the hardest part of the course in front of you.

  • Comments: I feel bad rating this race average because it had great volunteer support, plently of aid stations, great pace groups and was very organized. I did so, however, for two main reasons: 1.) Outside of Fort McHenry, which is breath taking, it is a VERY boring race. Alot of the course takes you through some seedier parts of baltimore. Safety was never a worry, it just isn't too much to look at. I will say that local support in this area, while not abundant, meant alot. When you were out of the run-down areas you were sent to the new yuppie areas that were under construction. The whole race course really just begs for social commentary.... anyway, just boring scenery. I am also incredibly spoiled because my only 2 other marathons were both at the Marine corps, which is gorgeous. The second, and largest, reason that this race only gets an average rating from me is that around mile 16 the half-marathon participants and the marathon participants unite. Since the half marathon has double

  • Comments: This was the 4th year I've participated in the marathon (3 finishes, one DNF) and it has gotten better every year. There were tons of volunteers, more and more spectators each year and they make a point of addressing comments from the last year to make it a better event. An example was last year the medals sucked and so they got an early design approved and this year they were fantastic. I honestly think I had a better race here then I had at the NCR race last year where I PRed and BQed. Our pace was pretty consistent and I made a point of taking in a lot of fluids (more than I usually do) and took my Gus on :30 minutes as planned. This was really a test to make sure I could even pace my effort and take in the correct nutrition so that I don't fall apart at Florida. I think I know what it will take to do well there with this and the aqua velo experience. I just have to execute and string it all together and take what the day gives me! Oh, and even though I don't plan on runnning

  • Comments: This was a well run race. Only a couple gripes. Some of the water breaks were not at the mile marks, so you couldn't plan Gu intakes. I didn't like merging with the half marathon group as it makes the course crowded for the last 6 miles. Plus they throw off the pace groups you've gotten into. Finally the post race food wasn't that great but they did have a large after race party. You just had to pay for things there. The race does give you some good swag. An Underarmour shirt (they are a sponsor), socks and gloves. All pretty cool looking. Overall a race I'm glad that I did. The course is interesting, it's not that big a race, lots of volunteers and police and it ran on time. Plus I PR'd the distance.
