Run
Comments: Before leaving home on Saturday reviewed race report from when I did Hyannis last year. Didn't have a good race at that time and wanted to learn from mistakes. Decided this year I would dress differently, go out a little slower, maintain a comfortable pace until about 8 miles, assess how I felt and try to pick up pace at that point (after the "hill" section). Ended up going to the area at the start for 9:00 / mile folks. Turned out to be pretty far back from start line (took 2 min to get to line). Lots of folks to weave through including a few walkers. Ended up executing my plan nearly perfectly. Went out easy for the first mile. At 1 mile things opened up a little and hit a more comfortable stride/pace while having less people to dodge and weave through. Got into a groove and focussed on running comfortably and keeping breathing relaxed. Felt great. Took GU at 45 minutes. Think it was around 6 miles that I realized I had brought time down to average of 9:00 min/mile pace. Felt awesome through miles 7 and 8 and seemed to get up the rollers/"hill" much easier than last year when I struggled to keep running. Took 2nd GU at around mile 10 (1h 25min) and it sat a little heavy. Backed off pace just a tad to see if stomache would settle. Maintained pace until hit mile 12 marker. Tried to push last mile which just hurt. Finished feeling like gave 100% (thought I may hurl) and it was a good 2 minutes of meandering around in finish area before felt like I could stop moving to remove chip without getting sick. Nutrition: ~2 oz accelerade every 10-12 minutes, GU (vanilla bean) w/ water at 45 min and 1h 25 min What would you do differently?: Start further toward front. Otherwise ran race exactly according to plan. Post race
Warm down: None. This was more like a rapid chill down. Grabbed a Gatorade and then went back toward road to find Joanne and Glen and watch for others to finish. Hung around until Max and PJOstack finished then grabbed a warm shower, change of clothes before heading out onto course to find Pam and Rob who were running the full. What limited your ability to perform faster: Weight. If I can only drop some pounds. Event comments: Not sure there are enough aid stations if I was going to rely on them. Wore my Fuel Belt and brought gels so I was able to run through each one. 1' 33" off PR that I set on this course back in 2003 when I was a "runner" and logging 30+ miles per week. Given the focus of my running has been more on about getting ready for IMLP I couldn't be happier with how I did today. Last updated: 2006-09-16 12:00 AM

Dinner with BT folks the evening prior. Stayed at host hotel. Got to sleep pretty early for me. Up off and on throughout night. Managed to stay in bed until about 7.
Bagel with with PB at 7:00 am, cup of coffee. 1/2 Cliff Bar at 8:45 am. Threw on clothes for race; tights, dri-fit jersey, zip-up moisture wicking jersey, hat (would end up losing the hat after first mile). Perfect clothes for the conditions.
Had bought tri berry GU the day before. Rob (CptnJackSparrow) gave me some vanilla bean instead which I tasted day before, like flavor better, and decided to go with during race (i.e. tried something new / new flavor on race day). Thanks Rob. Much better than the triberry crap.
No warm up. Left room and went downstairs about 9:15 to meet up with BT folks. Couldn't miss Max in his outfit. Posed for pictures with the gang and then went over to the start line. Did some light stretching while waiting for the start.
