Swim
Comments: it was way easier than I thought it would be. What would you do differently?: probably sight better Transition 1
Comments: easy, seemed like a blur. Probably a minute slow, but it was my first one so I'm happy how it went. What would you do differently?: nothing, except grabbed some electrolyte or salt tablets. Bike
Comments: bike was fine. I held back quite a bit in order to save energy. There were some headwinds, but nothing bad. All the hills were rolling and very easy. I got bored, so I put on a charge at mile 40 just to become interested in the race. Kept heart rate more or less moderate. What would you do differently?: get a tri bike. really wished I had one. That would probably give me another mph without any effort. I think I might push a little harder, but I was worried the run would kill me if I did. I normally train at a higher rate. Transition 2
Comments: easy. met my expectations What would you do differently?: BRING SALT TABLETS OR ELECTROLYTE TABLETS. Run
Comments: hard and horrible beyond mile 10. was cramping badly and ended up doing 15 minute miles for the last three. That sucked. Otherwise, nutrition for the race was very good. What would you do differently?: take salt tablets! I hadn't done this in training, so I didn't do it on race day. bad mistake, total newbie. Post race
Warm down: face death, eat, lay down, etc. What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of salt, for starters. I probably should have done more running in training. Event comments: they ran out of food after the race very quickly. aid stations were mostly good. I hate running multiple loops for any road race, so if you hate loops, don't sign up for this. But there were LOTS of great athletes participating, I thought. The heat of the day was rough. Last updated: 2006-09-21 12:00 AM
