Swim
Comments: I thought the swim would never end. It just looked so far away when we started...having all those people ankle-grabbing was unsettling. When I got out of the water, there was Laura cheering for me...that was awesome. I was totally stoked when I realized that only ten minutes had gone by, it felt more like an hour and a half. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: I felt so strong on my new road bike! I kept passing people!! Wow, so THIS is what's fun! I kept looking for girls that were in my wave, and got elated every time I passed someone in an earlier wave. I was hustling, hustling, hustling afraid that I'd miss the cut-off and not be able to finish. Each time I passed someone (to me everyone else seemed like a "real" triathlete), I thought I had one more chance to actually finish. Transition 2
Comments: Finally saw my hubbie at the end of the bike and was so distracted, I ran about 10 racks past MY rack. Had to fight traffic (while holding my bike) to get back to where I could rack it. Oops. What would you do differently?: Pay closer attention to path from ALL the entry points. Run
Comments: I think I walked a major portion of the run...I kept trying to run, but I'd peek at my HR montior and slow down. The long stretch around Tomorrowland was the worst...not a speck of shade. Still it was cool running thru Disney and all the people clapping made it such a surreal experience. Post race
Warm down: We all went out for lunch...to the Rainforest Cafe (what a let-down!) After the race, I walked countless miles through the outlet malls...shopping for clothes in my new size! Event comments: Look forward to doing this again, and bringing a friend along. This was the PERFECT race for a first-time newbie! Last updated: 2006-10-21 12:00 AM

Despite swallowing half a bottle of NyQuil, I didn't sleep a wink the night before. My friend Laura came to Orlando to volunteer in the race and she slept like a log while I just kept getting up to try another shot of NyQuil. I thought about not showing up at all because by morning I was exhausted. I guess this was a mega dose of pre-first triathlon jitters. My husband worked late the day before, so he was going to join mid-race. It was the thought of letting them both down that made me drive over and set up my transition area.
