Overall Rank = 155/216
Age Group = F 45-49
Age Group Rank = 6/8
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:15..made pb&j samich to take to race site. Got to the race site about 6 am...found a great spot on the racks and laid my gear out. Turned in my post race bag. Was really nice having real bathrooms for once! Did a lot of waiting around.
Event warmup:

Stretched just a little bit then ran a slow pace for about 10 minutes trying to get warm. Then stretched some more.
Swim
  • 10m 21s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 35s / 100 meters
Comments:

It felt so wonderful getting into the warm pool! I was not expecting my arms to feel like lead..guess it was the cold! Took me the first 100m to even feel remotely normal and to feel my arms actually propelling me forward! The rest of the swim went really well..even passed 4 or 5 people! Did not want to get out of the warm water and into the cold air though!
What would you do differently?:

Do more training in the cold!
Transition 1
  • 01m
Comments:

This was an easy transition due to beginning with the run! My T1 time was good enough for 2nd in my age group..missed 1st by 1 lousy second!
Bike
  • 58m 52s
  • 13.4 miles
  • 13.66 mile/hr
Comments:

Hilly, hilly and more hilly! Being from Houston where everything is flat I still have a harder time on the hilly roads! Still trying to learn how to correctly make my way up the bigger hills! Just keep chanting..slow and steady is my pace, slow and steady finishes the race!
What would you do differently?:

Train way more on hills...gotta quit putting it off!
Transition 2
  • 02m 26s
Comments:

Since this was a reverse tri I started stripping off helmet, gloves, clothes as fast as I could and not fall over! Brrr...was cold! Stopped and took time to take in more water. My T2 time was good enough for 3rd in my age group.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster! Numb fingers hindered me a bit so I guess I would do better at keeping my hands warm.
Run
  • 32m 26s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

I really enjoyed running first! Now I know why they kept flashing that sign that said to save some for the hill at the pre-race meeting! That hill was not a good time...although I did actually run (ok..well shuffle anyway) the whole way up! Was not going to stop! The rest of the run felt really good but again I think the cold was not my friend.
What would you do differently?:

Train more in cold weather and run a few more hills!
Post race
Warm down:

Ran as fast as I could to pick up my post race bag and get myself into a warm shower! Felt so nice! Got changed into sweats and then went out to find Jennifer. Ate some yummy roast pork tacos and Big Kahuna bars, plus the usual oranges and bananas.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hills and the cold.

Event comments:

Not bad for a first time venue! Didn't like the delay of the start because of the cold and then having to wait and wait some more for the awards but other than that it was a great race.
