Swim
What would you do differently?: I need to keep to my training on breathing every 3. Since I was only breathing every 2, I kept drifting off course (this is probably an indication that I'm losing form when I breathe - another thing to work on). Transition 1
Comments: Running out of the water was perhaps the worst part of my race as my legs were shaky and I was out of breath. The wetsuit strippers were great as they had mine off in just a couple of seconds. That said, I took too long to put on my socks and shoes as I was a little nervous about forgetting something. What would you do differently?: use different socks so that they're not so hard to get into. Bike
Comments: Bike went well, I probably could have pushed a little harder, but I kept wanting to save some for the run. What would you do differently?: I probably should have pushed harder, I had plenty of energy left for the run as I never once considered walking a bit. Transition 2
Comments: Not great, I got off the bike too early, and did not run well with the shoes on. What would you do differently?: I need to slip out of the clip shoes with them still on the bike. Run
Comments: I help a steady pace throughout. My pace was about the same as my training pace, so I felt good about it considering I usually don't do the swim and bike for my normal workouts. What would you do differently?: not much. I need to continue working on my pace so that I can compete at the same level as I did for the swim and the bike. Post race
Warm down: light stretching. There was a downpour that started about 5 minutes after I finished, which limited my ability to warm-down. Plus, I was looking for my brother-in-law who I knew was right behind me. What limited your ability to perform faster: fear of pushing too hard on my first tri. I need to train more on the run, and get more comfortable with my own endurance capabilities and limitations. Event comments: I enjoyed this race despite the torrential downpour of rain after I finished. I was thankful I wasn't still on the course as I had family that we tried to watch finish. This was my first tri, so I don't have much to compare to, but I do appreciate the fact that this seemed to go very smoothly, with lots of great volunteers (including the little cheering squad during the run), and lots of amenities. Woke up at 4:30 and got the family to IHOP to eat a breakfast at 5am. I ate scrambled eggs, 2 sausage links, and 2 pancakes (yes, with syrup), 2 glasses of water and a coke. After returning to the hotel and packing up, we headed over to Moody Gardesns adn dropped off the kiddo at a a day-camp associated with the race. I got body marked and racked my bike.
I was hoping to warm up on each event, but all I was able to do was a 10 minute slow run before the event. This turned out to be very good as I was definitely feeling good when I went in for the swim start.
