Swim
Comments: I liked the swim! I didn't have a panic attack but I can remember a lot of people in my way. They stopped for what I am not sure. But they were in my way. I took the first loop about 53 min per the clock and then I got out at 1:33. If my calculations are right then I had a 40 min negative split. Am I imagining all of this? What would you do differently?: Sight better. I went out very wide on the last turn during the first lap Transition 1
Comments: I had a little trouble reaching my back pockets so I had help from one of the volunteers. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. I was happy with my goal. Bike
Comments: My knees hurt as soon as the 2nd mile rolled by. I knew at that point it was going to be a long time in the saddle and a questionable mary. I wasn't going to stop trying though. I went up the bridge both ways with just my right leg to save my left knee. The last time I did a stand in the saddle and went over a bridge I had some serious issues with my knee and was in severe pain by mile 40 so I stayed with my one leg pedaling over the bridge. What would you do differently?: What could I do? My knee hurt. I saved it as much as possible to make it to the mary. Transition 2
Comments: It was quick enough. I almost forgot an inhaler that was loaned to me by Filip. I'm sooo glad he had an extra one for me. What would you do differently?: Remember to unload my back pockets. Run
Comments: I had a great time on the run. I've already ran the course this past May for Gulf Coast Half so I knew the landmarks from last time. I think it went by rather quick even though it may not seem that way with my time. I saw many people on their last loop and it being my first. I knew I was going to make it for sure when I reached the turnaround and began my 2nd lap. I took my time during this leg also to make sure I could make the midnight cut off. What would you do differently?: I don't know. I had to be careful and keep moving. It felt better to run/jog than to walk. I wonder why? Post race
Warm down: I kept moving. Susan and Tam took care of me afterwards. They brought me a silver blanket, my T bags, food and led me to the massage tent where I had a 30 min massage and brought me my bike. They made sure I had a hat and t-shirt. I was told about the medal shortage but I was too tired to say anything. I borrowed a medal to take my finish picture, that was nice of another Ironman to loan me hers just for the shoot. What limited your ability to perform faster: My knee!!!!!! Event comments: Thank you to all the volunteers and to all my friends, new and old, for being my support crew and also reminding me of why we do what we do. I felt like Ironman Florida was the best venue as my Ironman debut. Hats off to everyone who crossed the line and to everyone who made a valiant effort. I haven't stopped smiling and to be honest, I haven't taken off my bracelet yet. I don't want too. I will, just not now. ;) Last updated: 2006-11-10 12:00 AM

Got up with everyone about 4 am. It was funny to hear all the alarms go off at once. Bob called me at 4 and then Dave called me at 4:15. It was great to hear their voices so early in the morning. They got me going and pumped and also calmed me. I listened to U2 Bad a few times and then got up to eat breakfast.
Forgot my aero bar drink system, my inhaler and luckily that was it. Walked around trying to get it out of my system of stupid forgetfulness and talked to Filipe and Tam who told me to let it go. I eventually did. I walked down to the start and started to put on my wetsuit. I walked my cool down bag to the transition area and proceeded the walk over to swim start. My stomach was in knots! I made it down there and started to stretch out my arms and chatted with some of the other swimmers who were as nervous as I was. BOOM! there went our cannon.
