Pre-race routine:

Ate breakfast. Started drizzling when I got into my car. Got a Dunkin Donuts coffee on the way. Park not at the main lot but some lot further away from the finish (close to kids' race area). Drizzling stopped and I caught a glimps of the sun. Decided not to wear the rain jacket. Got race packet, brought it back to car. Waited at the kids start. BTers running this race were Ontherun, tri_again, swadland and kathy, and me.
Event warmup:

Jogged from porta potty to kids start, back to car, to kid start again. Hopped around w hile watching the kids of Ontherun, swadland and tri_again did their race.
Went back to my car after kids race to take off the down vest. Grabbed headband. Wind was taking up and I could feel I'm losing heat from my head. Baseball cap was not enough to keep me warm.

Comments:

Felt the need to pee at the beginning but the lines were too long, so I decided to hold it. For a while I lost everyone. I was standing in the middle of a crowd sort of to the FOP. There are so many people to block the wind and I actually felt warm. Walked towards the back of the crowd and found Ontherun, tri_again and swadland. Lost Kathy. Thought she might be at the front as she wanted to use this race as her TT.

Couldn't even brisk walk at the beginning of race start. Clock showed 7 min by the time we reached the start line.

Mile 1: long stretch of uphill. Had to keep it slow. The 4 of us stucked together. Was a little worry of the pace. I was trying to make it in less than 50 min, that is a 10 min/mile pace at the slowest. First mile was 11 min. But it was uphill and very crowded. Had to run sideways a lot to avoid people. Too many groups of walkers walking 7-8 people abreast. Or walking their dogs.

Mile 2: swadland turned to the 5k route. Picked up pace as the course flattened. Left the main road and turned into some residential area. Local people form groups of bands playing music and cooking. Took a sip of water at the drink station.

Mile 3: Some down hill. Getting a negative split. Spent most of the time listening to my newly uploaded HK pop music in my mp3 player, and at the same time listening to Ontherun talk.

Mile 4: Ontherun was still doing most of the talking. I wish I could talk that much without getting out of breath while running. Took another sip of water from the station. Beginning to feel a pull on my right butt. Started to rain again. Looked at the time and said if we keep at the current pace we'd make it in less than 50 min.

Mile 5: Ontherun and tri_again began to run fast. I tried to follow them. The start of mile 5 was a down hill so it was no problem. But my right glute was getting tight. They were practically sprinting at the flat of the road turning into the finish. Saw Joanne's son Nick at the corner cheering for us. The last 300 yard was an uphill. I tried to keep up with them but they just pulled away. Joe cross the line first, follwed by Joanne, then me.
What would you do differently?:

Don't know.
Post race
Warm down:

Follow the croded into the garage, got some water and a bagel. Got the apple pie. By that time it was raining quite heavinly and I started to feel the chill. Didn't want to get soaked in the rain and we decided to head out.

Event comments:

Fun race on Thanskgiving. This is a good way to create a caloric deficit before the big meal.
