Pre-race routine:

Got the kids and wife up and into the cars. Spotted a beutiful double rainbow on the way to the race. My sister called enroute to ask if I could get her kids into the kids race. Got the parking lot. Handed the my kids to the wife and ran to the race day registration. Got my neices in!! All 4 of them got to race. So much fun to wathch. Found Kathy G, DK and Joann before the kids race. Made the big phopa of the day... did not introduce DK to my wife when trying to manage logistics of getting my race belt back from my son and find all the BTers around. Called Scott and set up a meeting place. Found Joann again and DK and we looked for Kathy, but lost track of her.
Event warmup:

Stretched a little before leaving the house. Also sprinted around to get race numbers for the kids and watch them race! Best time at a race with the family, hands down.

Comments:

This is a fun run. The purpose is to have the "old home week" or "homecomming" feeling of a thanksgiving day football game. Since I never see anyone I know at the games over the years, I would rather run!! (boy did that just come out of the mouth of someone who struggled to run a 5k in highschool?) We decided to run hard up the final hill to the finsih. I was accused of having longer legs by Joann and it was not fair :) I said that I was heavier, probably spotting her close to 80lbs of extra weight for me to lug up the hill :) Just felt good to let loose a little.
What would you do differently?:

Work the logistics better. We found everyone that I know was there, but still lost track of Kathy before the start. We need a gathering point to check in with each other and a starting point to statr the run. I also think it would be helpful to start further up. Too many walkers are in the middle of the pack to wade thruogh. I think about 1/2 between the trafic lights and the starting line would be helpful.
Post race
Warm down:

looked for Kathy and Scott (lost him on the first hill, and he was doing the 5k) took off timming chip and turned it in. Just started to rain as we entered the parking garage. Picked up the pies (seemed bigger than last years. Remember them as personal size pies not 2-4 persons). DK, Joann and I decided that due to rain and kids waiting that departure was in order. I spent 20 minutes in my spot waiting to leave and anouther 20 leaving the lot. This is the only down side of the race but gassbagging helps let the time pass when we can.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

having fun not going fast

Event comments:

Felt realy good after the race and the good push up to the finish. Decided I was glutting for punishment and ran around the lake in Wakefield for good measure. Felt good enough that a PR might be in the legs. Got passed the first 100 yards and right into the winds of the rainstorm. No PR, but felt like I had done a good effort for the day and could enjoy the rest of the day. :)
