Swim
Comments: Straight line for 700m with a right hand turn, exactly 14mins, right on my planned pace, quite happy with that, the swim seems to be getting a bit easier, but still very daunting at the start. The wave behind us (males 35+) cought up to me when I still had a few hundred meters to swim, that wasn't much fun, but I just swam off to the side a bit and let them through. Secend swim was 300m, did that in about 6 mins, water was devine, and I felt better in that swim than in any other part of the race, was looking for my sun bed, and tall glass with an umnbarella in it when I came out of that swim... What would you do differently?: Nothing really, enjoyed the swimming today, just have to get faster. I think the open water swimming in the horrid conditions on Friday nights are starting to help. I am starting with the sqaud this Tuesday, so that should help also. Transition 1
Comments: Dilly dally alot in transition, I don't think it would take me any longer if I boiled a kettle and made a cup of tea. I think I am just consiouse of the bike and run to come, and figure that 1min or so in transition isn't going to do me any harm, one day I will try and speed this up a bit. What would you do differently?: Nothing yet... Bike
Comments: Had a really good first ride, average speed around 38-39km/hr, and felt good after the ride. Cought plenty of people, and didn't have any pass me. Managed to dring one bottle of water, one of powerade and had one carboshot, seemed to work well. Secend ride was good, simmilar pace, but being only 10km, you just get going and it's all over... What would you do differently?: Nothing, very pleased with my bike performance, I enjoy it, and find I can keep a 35km\h+ pace without exerting myself. Transition 2
Comments: Did a better job of getting off the bike this time, unclipped and jumped off...was fun, but could have ended in tears... Still dilly dallied in transition, prety sure I would have spent more than 5 mins in total in transition today. What would you do differently?: Nothing yet... Run
Comments: Drank enough this time, and managed to maintain a steady pace the whole time, but was very worried about the swim after the first run so ended up taking it very easy. The out leg of the first run seemed to take forever, I think that was about the longest 2.5km I have ever run. Did manage to stick to a set of heals pretty much the whole way. The second run seemed long also, looking back, i didn't really enjoy the runs today, struggled through both of the, with my mind wondering a bit. What would you do differently?: Just consentrate a bit more. Post race
Warm down: Had a rub down after the race which was pretty good, just had to wait a long time to get it. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training and very poor diet over the christmas holidays... Event comments: Very good race, loved the format, was good fun...disspointed that my splits are all messed up on the results page, total is right, but it says I took 1:30+ on the 20km bike, and 0:00:00 for both runs...? Same as usual, couple of bix, picked up a friend, then drove the long, long way down to Rockingham.
Got there early, so had time to go for a run, do some stretching and chat to a few familiar faces.
