Swim
Comments: I felt okay heading out on the swim, I got drilled in the nose twice by some burly dude in a wet suit, so my adrenaline was flowing from the get go. After the first buoy my sighting was miserable and I was all over the course, I wound up behind a couple of tools, but once I got out of their slipstream I couldn't pass them. Felt strong, but I need to swim more and take lessons. What would you do differently?: If I could afford a wet suit I probably would have worn one. However, I'm a water snob in Arizona. There really isn't an open body of water in Arizona that warrants a wet suit. Transition 1
Comments: The kids and Sarah Mooney were cheering me on up the boat dock, so I sprinted passed a few old farts. This resulted in a case of 'the dizzies' in transition. Luckily I didn't fall over, but some wife was talking to me during transition, cheering me on, so that felt good. Gulped some salt tablets and headed out for the bike. What would you do differently?: Not much. Bike
Comments: I felt strong in the saddle. Plenty of bogeys to chase down since my swim was sub-par. With all the pros and elites in front of us I didn't get passed by too many riders. The moderate hill in the middle of the course was difficult, just couldn't find a happy gear. But the last third of the course I was hammering and felt good coming in to transition. What would you do differently?: Buy a tri bike? Transition 2
Comments: I took off my quick laces a few months ago and forgot to put them on my running shoes. Didn't slow me down all that much considering this was a faster transition than the first. Gulped some amino acid and salt tablets in transition and headed out for the run. What would you do differently?: Not much. Run
Comments: The support on the run was awesome. Cold water, energy drinks and goo at most stations. I ate so much goo it upset my stomach after the race, but those things always give me a little kick when I need them. I felt loose in the beginning, but couldn't pick it up in the middle. A few strong females passed me that I know I could run with, but didn't. The last mile and a half I felt much better and finished strong. What would you do differently?: Run more in my training. Post race
Warm down: Ate a popsicle at the finish, it was soooo good. Talked with Liz, then Jerry and then Mooney. Great race. Drank beers, ate the bar-b-que and chilled later in the day. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough training. Event comments: This triathlon is by far the best in the state of Arizona. The water was perfect, the course was in great condition. The volunteers were great and the raffle at the end of the race was the largest I've ever seen (even thought I didn't win anything!). Can't wait for next year. Last updated: 2006-12-11 12:00 AM

Oatmeal, coffee, dook. Someone in camp went in to town for Starbucks, so I was pretty jazzed with the latte, vitamins and food rumbling around in my tummy.
Stretched, swam in the lake for a short bit and got mentally ready for a serious ass whupping.
