Pre-race routine:

Routine and what actually happened are two very different things. Due to the really cold weather and wind I didn't really warmup. So only the first half of my routine (water, powerbar, and bathroom) was completed.

Stretching in the hotel. Jogged two blocks to the starting line.

What would you do differently?:

Suck it up for the cold weather and actually warm up for a mile or two. I guess no warm up didn't really affect my performance, but I was a little (a lot) tight right after crossing the finish.
Post race
Warm down:

2.5 miles on the boardwalk...yes I did a mile and 1/4 with a tailwind and turned back around into the rediculous headwind to finish my cooldown. I did get to cheer for my parents during my cooldown, and ran my mom into the finish chute...pretty sweet. They both did great!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wind? Not Warming Up? Maybe that was as fast as I can go for 5 miles? I thought 5:50 pace was pretty damn good. (Current record 5k pace is about 5:45).

Event comments:

Looking forward to running the 1/2 marathon tomorrow. I'm excited to see how it goes after my performance today! Right now, I'm expecting good things!

Splits: 5:40, 5:47, 5:52, 6:12, 5:50 The 6:12 was the turn onto the board walk and 20-30mph headwind. It took a couple minutes to adjust, which then I pulled out the 5:50 to finish
Course: Absolutely flat. Headwind mile 1, Tailwind Mile 2 - 3.5, Stronger headwind to the finish. Start to mile 3.25 was on city streets, the remainder of the race is on the VA Beach board walk
