Transition 1
Comments: N/A Bike
Comments: Wow!! That hurt!! Uphill in to the wind and longer than I had trained for. That's punishment by pedaling. What would you do differently?: Train for the right distance. Train for more hillls. Train for higher winds. I did not prepare myself properly Transition 2
Comments: I took my time, I was proud to have finished the bike and it's not like I was in contention for a medal. Oh yeah, I even took time to hit the port-a-potty. What would you do differently?: Nothing, this was my first race and I was just trying to finish. Run
Comments: I have a bad back, it's called rotary scholeosis (sp?) but it's not severe and since I've been exercising it has not bothered me. With all the riding I'd done it never bothered me, even in my brick. Today after I got off the bike, went through transition and then started runnin ...it hurt!!! While dealing with a sore back is nothing new to me, trying to run with a sore back is, it sucked. So I walked some of this course. What would you do differently?: Know that it was a trail run (this is key). Not have my back revolt on me. Oh yeah, I wasn't very well prepared (my bad). Post race
Warm down: Right before the finish line I grabbed my son and crossed with him in my arms. Right after the finish line There was food so I ate a lot, half an orange, two small banana-nut muffins, two handfuls of doritos, 6 oreos and a hamburger. Then I met up with my wife, my son and 3 good friends that had shown up just to be there at the finish line. Alright, so I'm not a triathlete but I don't know many people that would have gone out and done what I did today. Also, I think I came in first in the "Males over 30 that are asthmatic and quit smoking 6 months ago" age group. I just can't find that group in the race results. :) What limited your ability to perform faster: I just quit smoking 6 months ago, I'm asthmatic and I slacked on my training while dealing with life. ...yeah, yeah; I didn't prepare myself well enough. Event comments: I feel like if the race had included the swim it would have ran smoothly. But when the swim was cancelled it was obvious that the organizers had no contingency plans. It didn't matter to me, there was no way this could have made me more nervous. I would race with these organizers again. Last updated: 2007-01-03 12:00 AM

There was nothing routine about it, this was my first race since I ran track 17 years ago and the longest distance I raced then was 220 yards. I got up at 4:30 and headed right toward the race, stopping only for some water, vitamin water, bagels & coffee. I got there early enough to not feel rushed which was good since I had to look at everybody else's transition area to figure out how to set mine up. Before the race started there was an announcement ...the swim was cancelled ...!!! Alright now what? We ended up just doing the bike & run portions at the planned distances.
I met up with Brian, sailing4. Very nice guy (who passed me for good on the bike, after popping his chain off).
I jogged a little before my wave was supposed to go but with the swim being cancelled I ended up not starting the bike until over a half hour after my wave was supposed to start so the warmup was pretty much wasted.
