Swim
Comments: Not sure why my time was slow - I thought maybe the course was long, but I was almost last in my wave. I know I don't really like to swim and have been slacking here in my training, but I felt like I was going at a good pace and my breathing felt good. At both turn buoys, the congestion was really bad and I had to stop swimming and just try to move forward. What would you do differently?: Not sure - swim train more, I guess. Transition 1
Comments: AG: 1/10 Overall: 6/221 GREAT transition - I flew in and out of here really quickly and it shows in the ranking. I've been trying to focus on faster transitions, so I think it is working. What would you do differently?: Nothing!! Bike
Comments: Rough start to the bike - I clipped in and tried to start pedaling, but my chain was off. The chain was jammed in what I think is the rear derailler. I really didn't know how to fix this and just hit it and pulled on it and did anything I could think of to loosen it. Every few second I tried to turn the pedal again to see if anything helped. Finally - ages later it felt like, it finally fell into place and then the chain fell off the big ring in the front - CRAP! I do know how to fix that though and after a quick adjustment, I was finally off! I was really frustrated at all the time I knew I had lost and just tried to hammer it as much as I could. I passed a TON of people, only getting past by a few (although the fast people had probably had already passed me when I was dealing with the bike issue above anyway). The course was great, very fast with a few technical sections, mostly residential area. I was debating on whether or not to take a gel on the bike, but decided to just drink a good amount of HEED and leave it at that. I think I lost a little focus during the last few miles, I could have pushed harder at the end, something I'll work on next race. Flying dismount off bike and run into transition - very smooth - so glad I learned this! What would you do differently?: Check my bike better before leaving transition before the race... Transition 2
Comments: AG: 3/10 Overall: 165/221 Not as fast as T1, but I put on socks here. I am not willing to lose the socks yet. I was aiming for a sub-60sec transition, so I am very happy with this! Attached my race number to my fuelbelt this time, so it was just as quick as grabbing a race belt - will do this in the future! What would you do differently?: Nothing! Run
Comments: I have NEVER moved up in the standings on the run before (I usually lose a ton of places)- YEAH!! This is a 5K PR for me, met my goal of sub 27 5K for the year. I felt good the entire run, sipped water and HEED from my fuelbelt every mile or so - dumped a little water on my head around 2 miles. I was keeping my mile splits during the race (8:39, 8:31, 8:22) and kept looking at my watch in disbelief. It was a great feeling coming into the finish line knowing I had an awesome run - all those long bricks really pay off! :) Oh - and I beat Kirk on the run!! (okay, he did get stung by a wasp twice on the bike and couldn't take a deep breath without extreme pain, but I still beat him!! ;)). What would you do differently?: Nothing - I'm VERY excited about my performance Post race
Warm down: Walked around, grabbed a water and cold rag, found Kirk. Ate two orange slices and a recoverite. Chatted with some other we knew at the race. When the results were posted I was bummed to see that I was in 4th place by 26 seconds - I would have been in 3rd place if I hadn't had the bike issue and I probably could have pushed a little harder on the bike... Oh well - next year!! :) What limited your ability to perform faster: Bike Issue Event comments: I really liked this course, nice location and plenty of volunteers. This race will stay on my calendar for next year! Last updated: 2007-01-03 12:00 AM

Got up at 6AM, got ready and packed the hotel room. Breakfast was Green Tea and 1/2 Bagel with PB and Honey. Drove 15 minutes to race site, easy parking, and set up transition. Race start was 8AM, but we had to pick up packets as well as setup. Still felt like I stood around for too long, but I think an hour prior to start is still good, since it's hard to predict how long you have to wait in line for packet pickup.
None - dipped toes in the water - very warm.
