Swim
Comments: The time includes a one minute run to the transition area. My goal was 45 minutes, got no where close to that! I swam far to the outside because all of the men were starting behind me. Like a swarm. It freaks me out. At the last turn, I was pretty far off, and had to swim a ways to get to the buoy. What would you do differently?: Keep practicing OWS. My OWS is so much slower than the pool! Transition 1
Comments: too long Bike
Comments: My bike goal was under 3:30, so 3:15 was great! It was cloudy for most of the bike too, which was VERY nice. Erik brought the kids out and positioned himself in 3 different spots on the bike which was super cool too. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Maybe keep training and get faster. Transition 2
Comments: wow, this was long. I couldn't run right off the bike, my legs felt weird. And my transition spot was at the far end from the bike entrance, so it was a long walk. What would you do differently?: practice transitions Run
Comments: In the first mile I thought I was going to puke, but didn't. Then got in a groove and ran slow. I tore my soleus in May, and my longest run since then was 7.35 miles. My plan was to walk one minute at every mile marker, and walk the aid stations. Once on the course, I added walking every hill. LOL! I had no goal for the run other than to finish. Found Shannon on the run at about mile 8. We ran together the rest of the way (minus a port-a-john stop) and finished together which was really cool. Nice to have someone to talk to! By the way, what was with the lack of port-a-johns on the run? Only 2 spots on a 6.5 mile loop? However, I hit both spots on both loops for a grand total of 4 stops on the run alone! That's a lot of peeing. Hallelujah for sponges and ice on this course. I kept thinking on the 2nd lap....where is the aid station with the sponges? I was dying for those silly things. What would you do differently?: work more on longer bricks, get back to training right Post race
Warm down: Hobble to the shade, get food, chat a little. I did get a massage. That was pure heaven. I have such a hard time eating after long workouts and races....I need to force myself. I couldn't even eat at home later. What limited your ability to perform faster: injuries, lack of training, but really, overall, I'm pleased. It was slow, but I've had a hell of a year. Hell of two years even. HOWEVER, I took 20 minutes off of my HIM time from 2 years ago, and all I wanted was to be under 7 hrs, which I did. Up at 4am. I didn't sleep that well as Erik woke me up at 11pm, and then Tara got up at 2:30am. Had a soy shake, and was out the door at 4:35am. On the way to the race, saw 2 other races pushing their broken down vehicle off of Foothills. I stopped to offer them a ride, but they were going to wait for someone to pick them up. I hoped for a little good karma to come out of my attempt to help :)
Set up my area, dynamic stretching with Mark. And of course, Stacie, Shannon and Ocky chuckled at us.
