Comments: I was out of the water in 36:55 which is great for me. This was 2 minutes faster than I thought I would do. I started off right near the front middle and just sort of got into a groove and felt good the whole way. I sighted really well and was tight around the buoys. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I felt good the whole way and wasn't really that tired when I finished. Transition 1
Comments: I was in the far corner of the transition area so I had a long way to go both ways. I knew this would be at least 2 minutes. What would you do differently?: Nothing. My spot in the TA made this a little longer. Bike
Comments: I had a great ride. I can't believe how much faster those ZIPP 808's are compared to my regular wheels. I bet I was at least 10 minutes faster than I would of been with my regular wheels. Not only were they faster but I felt like I was using less energy too. I never felt fatigued on the whole ride. I will be renting these for CDA next year. They are worth every penny. I drank 1 bottle of Cytomax, 3 bottles of Perpetum, and took one bottle of Gatorade Endurance at the last stop on the second lap and ate 6 Fig Newtons and took in 10 Endurolytes during the ride. 5 Bottles of fluids seems like a lot for 2:30 hours but I think it definitely helped me. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: I had a good spot here. I was just inside the bike in so I had like 20 feet to get to my rack. I had my fuel belt and my hat just inside my cooler full of ice so when I put them on they were icy cold and felt great. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I got out of T2 and looked at my watch and knew I had a chance at hitting 5 hours. I felt really good for the first lap. I averaged right around 8:30 miles. I drank 24 ounces of Cytomax the first lap along with a little water from the aid stations. I dumped water over my head as often as possible. I started the second lap and looked at my watch and knew I would need a great 2nd lap to be under 5 hours but I thought I could at least be really close and I was still feeling pretty good. I hit the first hill on the 2nd lap and barely jogged up it and then hit the second hill and it zapped my energy. I ended up walking up the second hill. From then on I had a hard time. I walked every aid station and drank as much as I could but I still felt a little dehydrated. I would run to the next aid station so I could drink some more. It was so hot that 2nd lap. I was happy to finally finish. What would you do differently?: I need a lot of fluids especially when it's hot. I probably needed twice the amount of fluids I took in to not overheat. I did take 3 endurolytes after the first lap but I never touched my gel flask. My plan was to take in the whole flask during the run. That may have helped me sustain my energy but I'm not sure. The heat always wears me down. A 1:51 run is what I needed to be under 5 hours and I was 10 minutes too slow. Maybe next time. Post race
Warm down: Just cooled off drank a lot of water and ate some food. What limited your ability to perform faster: The heat on the run hurt me. Other than that I had a great race. Event comments: Great race and I would do it again. Last updated: 2007-01-08 12:00 AM

Ate a cinnamon crunch bagel and drank an Ensure. Drank some water while I was waiting for my wave to start.
I wasn't nervous at all before the race. Even though my race number was 911 I'm not superstitious.
Jogged a couple hundred yards and that's it.
