Run
Comments: I had a great time! I befriended some other runners and we conversed off and on throughout the run. My plan was to run comfortably and walk briskly at the aid stations to be sure I got plenty to drink + a PowerBar GEL at mile 6. Coming in the mile 9 aid station, I stepped wrong and twisted my left knee. It didn't hurt to bad to stop, but it was really sore the rest of the way. I also had to go to the bathroom REALLY bad around mile 10 and I didn't find a porta potty or open business to go in to. What would you do differently?: nothing! I had a great race and I am quite happy to have experienced this! I can't wait for 2007 as I'm going to do 2-3 more 1/2 marathons and I hope to break 2:00:00 at the next KC Half. Post race
Warm down: After being herded like cattle through the food line, legs feeling like jello, I met up with my wife and then went to the bathroom! We walked the 1/2 mile back to the car and I stretched really good. I was the best man in my cousin's wedding 3 hours later! What limited your ability to perform faster: 1) this was my first and I didn't want to bonk. 2) hurt my left knee around mile 9 3) had to go to the bathroom at mile 10 Event comments: It was a great race and well stocked at the aid stations. My first 1/2 marathon! I got up at 5:00 and ate a light breakfast: toast and some grape Gatorade. My wife was going to be cheering me on today, so I had to get her up around 5:30. We left the house around 6:00 and made it to the race at 6:30. It was kind of cool (45), so we went inside and I met a couple members of the forums from coolrunning.com. I met up with some friends from church and we hung out for a bit, waiting for the races to start.
I lightly ran about a 1/4 mile, just to get warmed up, since it was a bit cool outside.
