Swim
Comments: For whatever reason, couldn't get in a rythm to start. I focused on my form and this lead me to go longer between taking a peak at my aim... caused me to drift a bit wide right. I wanted to be away from the crowd, but I looked like I was all alone out there! AFter I warmed up, the stroke felt good and I had a nice rythm going. Did not swallow to much water but was gasping for air! Made my way back to the pack right at the buoy and since I was so wide, I had a great angle on the turn (as I planned, YEAH RIGHT!) and made some ground on people! What would you do differently?: Swim about 200 meters to warm up before the race. Even in the lap pool, my first swim is always rough... Transition 1
Comments: After getting my bearings and almost falling over trying to jog to T1, I was feeling great about my time. They had wetsuit strippers which was easy to find coming out of the water.. you could hear the yelling and laughter from the area... Of course when they pulled off my wetsuit, i ended up showing some crack.. which of course was captured in a photo by my wife.. she claims its going on her desk! Got to my bike rack and put socks on and my bike shoes. Ran with my bike, helmet on and headed out of T1. What would you do differently?: Maybe try to ride without socks??? otherwise I was hapy with the effort here. It was about a 100m jog to T1 from the water. Bike
Comments: After the bike fiasco, I was pissed and motivated... I kicked butt on the bike IMO. was really happy with my work there. Legs felt strong and I was crusing. The cross winds were the worst I have felt...it was like someone shoving you. What would you do differently?: NEVER MESS WITH YOUR TIRES THE WEEK OF A RACE! Transition 2
Comments: AFter the tire mess I was trying to make up time. I sucked down some GU and chased it with some water.. maybe chugged alittle to fast because it ALMOST all came up... I threw on my kicks and I was off..... off without thtat stupid little race number.... I was on the run course when I noticed and had to turn back around and run back to T2 to get the race belt. Lost about 3 minutes on this... I AM A MORON! What would you do differently?: WEAR THE RACE BELT WHICH HAS YOUR RACE NUMBER ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Run
Comments: LOVED THE PACE. Legs felt really good off the bike. No stiffness or soreness at all. I felt great. If I had no forgotten the race belt, I would have had a PR by a long ways. I even sprinted the last .5 mile with all I had... next time I will start the sprint a little sooner. What would you do differently?: Push the pace more. I was jogging at a good conversational clip. I need to push push push... I had some gas in the tank when I was done. I need to work on some time trials during training so I know what speeds I should be jogging at, I was just guessing this time around. Post race
Warm down: About 30 seconds, no joke, after I crossed the finish line, the skies OPENED up. When I say opened up, I am talking 6 inches of rain in two hours... it was insane. I was more amazied by the weather then what I had just done. Lots of peopel were on the run and bike course when the rain hits, I feel really bad for those folks. It was miserably wet rain. All my gear, bike, etc was drenched beyond belief. The car, everything was so wet. This morrning when I loaded the bike up to come home, there was rust over the chain and most of the screws... the sea water air ate it up :( What limited your ability to perform faster: Rookie mistakes like bad tires and forgetting the race belt. Event comments: WIsh so bad we had better weather. the race was set up to be amaazing. Could not beleieve all the work that it looked like went into it. This is a great race and Keith should know he did a great job. I will 100% do this race next year except it may be the 1/4 or half :) First one is in the books, I am hooked! :) Last updated: 2007-01-14 12:00 AM

Rainy was volunteering so we were there about 2.5hours before the race. Plus we had a 1.5 hour drive to the race so I was up at 2am at the house race day.
Ran about 10 minutes to break a sweat. Stretched, prepared Transisiton area.
When I came back from the jog, my back tire was flat. AGAIN.. long story with this damn thing... I took it to MAVIC and they put in a new tube so I was good to go. whew!
