Run
Comments: The first 7 miles were pretty effortless. It was surprising how quickly each mile seemed to tick by. I was feeling great! After that it felt like I was working but still felt good. By mile 12 both Joe and I were really working. By mile 16 we were both hurting. It was good to see so many friendly faces, it really encouraged us, both the familiar ones and the friendly strangers. Another thing that saved us was the people who brought food for us, oranges, bananas, pretzels, candies, shot blocks, gels, lots of generous wonderful people. The finish line was perfect, we saw Tammy and Marlin waiting to cheer us on! Also, they announced our names something like, "Joe and Bonnie Lechnar you have just completed the Chevron Houston marathon, congratulations!" That was the coolest, also, Joe and I held hands as we went under the finish line, and I was going to kiss him but he kissed me first instead and we hugged for a long time:) One of the spectators said, "Get a room!", so I said, "We have one!" It was too funny:) What a totally cool accomplishment, I'm so glad I shared it with Joe. I'm so thankful I had Tammy to train and run the first nine miles with too. God has truly blessed me! What would you do differently?: I had some tummy issues which slowed me down. I'm thinking it may have been the 3 powergels that messed with me. Next time I will try shot blocks instead, to see if it helps. Other than that I think I did everything I needed to. I wish I had been faster though. Post race
Warm down: Walked around the convention center. We ate the crappy food which tasted wonderful! I ate eggs, a piece of sausage, half a bagel, and a biscuit with grape jelly. I drank more water and a citrus green tea. We then got our finishers shirts, which they only had XL left:(, got our bags and headed back to the Doubletree to shower and pack up. As we headed out we called Celeste to tell her we were headed over for the party, she said practically everyone had left already, we were really bummed about that. We really missed seeing you guys. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm not sure what I could have done differently. I guess I'm going to learn to pace myself on this longer distance. This is the slowest I've ever run:( Now I'm looking forward to the Austin half next month to do better. Event comments: My only complaint was the finisher shirt. We worked hard and the shirt is two sizes too big, that was very disappointing. The race was very well organized, the volunteers couldn't have been better, I love the course and the scenery. The expo was really good, too. Our kids had such a great time at the Kid's fun run on Saturday, too! Last updated: 2007-01-15 12:00 AM

We started our pre race with dinner at Luke and Kiley's and met Sharon, Jennifer, the Bear, Angel Bear, Clifford and family, and Tammy. Dinner was great, chicken parmesan, lasagna, salad, bread, banana pudding, and brownies, yum! It was really great to meet everyone:) Tammy got us a room at the Doubletree downtown, which worked out perfect. We were asleep by 11. We woke up Sunday morning at 5 am, rushed around figuring out what to wear, since it was supposed to rain, which luckily it never did. But we had our dollar ponchos that we tossed to the side early into the run. Joe and I had a bagel with peanut butter and a bottle of accelerade. We were out the door around 5:45 and headed to the GRB.
We walked the several blocks to the GRB, checked in our bags, used the bathrooms. We saw Sharon, Jeanette, the Bear, and Angel Bear, which was great. Afterwards we rushed out to find the white corral, our starting point. Somehow we ended up at the half mary start and had to double back, with a run, and got there just in time for the official start!
