Pre-race routine:

Brad and I have wanted to do this race for the past few years, but always had something. We made it a point to add it to the list this year. We camped right in Pohocantas State park and was able to walk to the race start! We got there pretty early and after some pre-race info and a bathroom stop, we positioned ourselves in the area for our wave.
Event warmup:

Not much...we walked around a bit and then waited for our wave to go off.
I started off on the bike which meant I was biking 3 legs and running 2. Brad was running 3 legs and biking 2. The first part of the course was a little crowded as the trail was skinny and a little technical. It helped we rode the course the day before. The obstacles were a small climbing wall w/ a cargo net on the other side, an over/under obstacle, a balance beam, and a climbing net up an inflatable slide. Overall the course was hilly which was challenging, but fun. The gravel trail was mostly shaded. On the last leg, I had to carry the bike through a thigh-high stream. It wasn't as awful as it sounds as I was just happy not to be the runner with wet shoes. I finished the bike leg and found Brad leasurely waiting for me to arrive so we could conquer the mud pit together. We didn't hesitate and just got right in, navagating under the flags. The mut was a little course and felt like there was gravel digging into our knees and elbows (maybe because there was). Just as we were going to get out of the pit to cross the finish line, I had to tackle Brad just once. Super fun! We got out of the pit and crossed the finish line laughing!

Event comments:

This was a very fun, one of a kind race! The course was challenging, but fun and well marked. It was great to camp right where the race was and after the race, there was a beer tent and plenty of hoses to clean up.
Very fun race I'll do again!
