Pre-race routine:

Had my usual bagel with p.b., banana, coffee and water. Race start wasn't until 9:30, so had plenty of time to get going in the morning. Was planning on meeting BTers and found Sparco, CindyMN and Denise. Headed to the start and squeezed in with 3000+ of my closest friends
Event warmup:

Plenty warm from being jammed into the start, no real warmup.

Comments:

This was tough for me. I don't practice enough hills, but I only really came to this conclusion a few weeks ago. I need to work on that and hope all of the rest of my races are very flat. I had to walk twice because I felt a little dizzy, I think was overheated and dehydrated. This might seem silly at 65 degrees, but there was little shade and I am used to running in the cold. I will hopefully acclimate better as the summer goes on. I could have used Gatorade or something, lots of salt loss.
What would you do differently?:

Bring/find Gatorade or similar, practice more hills. Otherwise I am impressed that I managed to run up some tough hills and mostly tough it out.
Post race
Warm down:

Kept walking until I didn't feel dizzy anymore. Got some water and found my friend Carrie and her husband. Walked over to Dairy Queen for our reward :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No hills training, too hot to keep up desired pace.

Event comments:

Would have liked water at miles 2 and 4, instead of just at 3. Granted it was 40 and rainy the last few years, so maybe they were gambling.

Course: USATF described is as "loop, mostly flat, roads". I guess mostly flat is true, except for about 4 killer hills. But it was flat in between I guess. It was a loop going up one side of the Mississippi and back down, so across two bridges.
