Swim
Comments: Since there was no chip timing and I didn't bother to bring my own watch, all the times are estimates except the bike. This is a pretty close estimate because they had a clock on the beach and it ticked over to 28 minutes as I started up the beach and I was in the third wave with 5 minute intervals. Very happy with this swim especially since Jellyfish, who is an amazing swimmer, says the course was a little long. It was definitely way longer than last year which I thought was a little short. Strong start even though I was a little out of breath, and I finished even stronger. What would you do differently?: Not have to run to the start. Swim a little before the start. Transition 1
Comments: Very rough guess. Long run to transition area and a long run from my rack to the bike exit. Transition went smoothly but could be a little faster. Bike
Comments: A good bike for me. I really like this course. Pretty similar although less hilly than my usual training rides. Had a little trouble passing the first few miles because of congestion and too many people not staying right. Also at the beginning there was a car with a guy taking video that blocked me a couple of times. I would like to know where I could see that video because they seemed to be pointing the camera at me a lot while they were getting in my way :) What would you do differently?: Maybe pass a little more aggressively. Transition 2
Comments: Another wild guess. Again a long run from bike dismount to my rack. At least it was a short run from my rack to the run exit. Run
Comments: I wanted to take it easy because I didn't want to hurt anything 2 weeks before Timberman. I took it a little too easy, spent too much time enjoying the scenery and I lost my focus. Towards the end the run was on the beach and there were a lot of rocks so I was overly careful there because I really didn't want to turn an ankle. My legs felt great coming off the bike; even a little "bouncy". Bricks are good. What would you do differently?: Pay attention? Remember it's a race? Post race
Warm down: Walked around. Found Haykev to say hello. Hope I didn't scare him. Packed up pretty quickly because I wanted to get home as early as possible. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm not real fast and I should push myself harder. Event comments: A low key race on a very nice course. Well run. Nice Dry fit shirt. This is the 4th time this year I have gotten a dry fit shirt. I like this trend. Last updated: 2007-02-17 12:00 AM

Up at 3:30 and out the door by 4 to get to the race by 5:30. One of the things I like about this race is the 6:30 start so I can get home early so I don't miss too much family time on a Sunday. Usual protein shake with berries about 2 hours before the start.
I'm doing my first half at Timberman so I wanted to do a race about 2 weeks before and I enjoyed this race from last year since it's low key, and a nice venue with a great bike course. Planned on swimming and riding pretty hard, but I wanted to take it easy on the run because I didn't want to take a chance that I might hurt myself.
A little bit of jogging, but then about 10 minutes before the first wave I needed to visit the restroom which never happens to me before a race. Figured it was OK since I was in the third wave. Turned out there was still a line and between that and the start being a little way down the beach I ended up having to run and didn't get a chance to swim before the start. I was also still breathing pretty hard by the time my wave started, so it was not a great warmup.
