Pre-race routine:

Drove to race early, ate Cliff bars on the way (Banana Nut and Blueberry Bliss) and drank Diet Pepsi. Got there before registration opened, so I drove the bike course - a good idea - I saw the wicked curve/uphill that the director was talking about.
Event warmup:

I did nothing. :) I wanted to listen to my iPod, but I apparently packed it so it turned itself on and ran out of batteries. So I watched. I went to the bathroom a million times. I watched more. I broke the zipper on my tri-suit twice. I drank water. I watched even more.

My start wasn't until 1:12:00 after the first starter, so I watched a lot of other people swim and then went out to watch the T1 and T2. Damn, those guys are fast. It was educational and I'm glad I did it.
Swim
  • 11m 18s
  • 300 meters
  • 03m 46s / 100 meters
Comments:

Not a good swim. I wasn't really prepared for swimming with 6-8 people in one lane. No, that's not all. I just suck at swimming. This will be my number one goal for my next sprint.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more. Practice more. Swim more. Practice more.
Transition 1
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

Not bad. It wasn't as bad as I thought. I was wetter than I thought. I don't remember being so wet when I get out of the pool at the Y. I was smart to unlace my shoes and roll down my socks. That went well.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing I think. Maybe take a quick drink before running my bike out.
Bike
  • 38m 19s
  • 10 miles
  • 15.66 mile/hr
Comments:

The ride went better than I thought. I felt strong through it, even up the wicked hill. I passed a lot of people. I didn't coast except down a couple big downhills (I still need to knee my bike to steady it on the downs).
What would you do differently?:

Drink more. Encourage after saying "On your left."
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

Wow. I'm fast at T2, since I'm lame and wear running shoes on the bike. :) I'm glad I bought a race belt, that was a good investment.
What would you do differently?:

Remember to take off my sunglasses. I hate running in sunglasses, so I ran with them popped on my head. I'm sure I looked dorky.
Run
  • 30m 52s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt like I was running slow. The first 1/2 mile out of T2 felt worse than any brick I've done. After that, it was good, and I was confused when I got to the turn-around...it didn't feel long enough. My mile splits were good.
What would you do differently?:

Run it in faster. I knew I was racing a 10K this coming weekend, so I probably left a little on the table for the end of the run. BUT I'm so proud of myself.
Post race
Warm down:

Drinking orange soda. Thanking the guy who ran in front of me for being such an awesome cheerleader...the man didn't stop encouraging everyone he saw for the whole 3 miles. Faster than him, slower than him, the water table folks, you name it. I told him he was AWESOME.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My swimming.
