Pre-race routine:

Event warmup:

Warms ups are for wimps
Swim
  • 11m 3s
  • 300 yards
  • 03m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

One of the hardest, scariest things I ahve ever done, due all to my complete lack of preparation. I have been running & biking, thoght I could do anything for 300M. Started in middle of pack, then got bumped and pushed around ALOT. Fell towrds the back, was doing OK until I got kicked in the face. This sent me under, slightly bloody nose, lungs full of lake, etc. Gutted it out, rolled over on my back and caught my breath, Final 100M was an alternate of backstroke and freestyle, with some serious flooping around thrown in for good measure.
What would you do differently?:

I did not prepare NEARLY enough for the swim. Seriously - I hit the pool at the YMCA twice the week before.
Transition 1
  • 03m 38s
Comments:

I alomost threw up after the swim, (yes, it was that bad!)and slowly walked to my bike. At this point I was just happy to be on dry land. Took my time getting my socks and shoes on, mad esure helmet, shirt and glasses we Ok then off I went. Wifenad kids were there but did not see / hear them.
What would you do differently?:

I was taking my time - need to use this time just for transitioning, not resting!
Bike
  • 40m 48s
  • 8.24 miles
  • 12.12 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

I used a mountain bike with road wheels. Need to invest ina real road bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

Saw my family - big boost!!!
Run
  • 40m 11s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 12m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs again were mush for the first 5-10 minutes until they got used to running. Was slow but felt good for the msot part. Lost of people walking, which was had to avoid the temptation. Angela came backand ran last 1/2 mile with me - that was a huge help as I was spent by that time.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, walkign around

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training, training, training.

teh first mile was rough until I got my legs back. My neighbor Angela was 2 waves behind me, and passed me between miles 1-2. After mile 2 I felt good, on mile 5 I was totally in the moment about doing a triathlon!
