Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30, showered and ate oatmeal. Roused the family and got everyone loaded in the car for the 25 min drive to GJCC. Arrived, picked up my race packet, set up my transition area, and chit-chatted with friends. Eventually wandered over the the pool area for the start of the race.
Event warmup:

With about 10 minutes left in the warmup time, I hopped in the pool and swam 200 m to get my breathing kinks worked out. Also practiced pushing off under the lane lines.
Swim
  • 03m 58s
  • 219 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim! I'm glad I did a quick warmup, I felt like it helped alot.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I could have probably transitioned a bit faster, however I felt relaxed and composed during this transition. The down side: I had all sorts of issues with getting onto my bike, getting clipped in, and getting up the slight hill out of transition.
What would you do differently?:

I have said it 10,000 times already, but I need to figure out how to get onto my bike while maintaining forward motion. I know this can be done. I just need to take the time to figure it out and practice.
Bike
  • 31m 13s
  • 8.5 miles
  • 16.34 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a pretty good ride, although my legs felt tired. I felt like I was able to make good use of my aero bars.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Had some issues with getting my handle bars tangled with my neighbor's bike while trying to rack it, not a big deal but it did slow me down. My husband actually video taped me during T2, which was interesting to watch.
Run
  • 17m 49s
  • 2 miles
  • 08m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt like my bike-to-run transition went better today than my last race. I was able to recover my running legs by maybe 1/2 mile into it.
Post race
Warm down:

Wandered around drinking a bottle of water and looking for my family.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I didn't get enough sleep for several nights in a row coming into this race. Poor planning, I guess.

Event comments:

Great race! Team Magic does a great job!

Course: 4x50m in a beautiful outdoor pool, ducking under the lane line into the next lane after each 50m. Also, the last ~10m of the swim angle around a L-shaped corner towards the steps out of the pool. I noticed that this messed up some folks because it required sighting where you're going.

Course: Nice route, very pretty at places. One long uphill climb, but doable. Good traffic support getting through intersections and corners, however I was surprised how much traffic was allowed out on the course. At one point a Hummer passed VERY close by me...hello, there is a whole other lane over there for oversized SUV's!
