Swim
Comments: was a start from the beach....walked in w/ the pack..waded to chest and started.. breaststroked to outside of lane and started freestyle....somehow i veered way left back into traffic..after correcting using breastroke a couple more times i resigned myself to breastsroking this swim also....that SUCKS...made the turn and was blinded by the sun..sighted on the person in front and hoped for the best...the weeds were a pleasure...only heard one person calling for help behind me on the swim gut i guess a bunch were pulled out... What would you do differently?: I need a TON more OWS practice....i was feeling really good heading in that my swimming was starting to turn the corner...back to the drawing board... Transition 1
Comments: I was 5:08 w/ a potty break at high cliff so i guess this w/o the potty break is equally as slow.... This time added the race belt at T1.. No problems just need to move my ar$e... What would you do differently?: go faster Bike
Comments: Started out ok...passing people and not sucking to badly...my mph sensor shifted on the bike around mile 8 so all i had was cadence for the second half... Felt like i didn't stop trying on the course but bike is by far my least practiced event.... The Gear system is archaic on my ride so many times the riders i'd pass would pass me back on the base of the hill whilst i tried to coax my bike into gear....this is really a practice issue and gear selection...TITS What would you do differently?: Ride more hills and work on better gear selections..i didn't use the smaller cog in the front the whole race because it was to big a pain in the a$$ to change to but I suspect switching to that and leaving my gearing alone in the back would maybe be a better hill gear....need to practice... Transition 2
Comments: Dismounted at line...i'm riding in mountain Bike SPD shoes so plenty of grip going through transition... put on my HR wrist watch.. no issues What would you do differently?: slower than high cliff...adding my HRM wrist watch added some time..chest strap was already on....not sure if it was worth it...didn't really use it on the run.. Run
Comments: Stopped right at the start for a potty break....partially walked the first significant hill...walked to many of the water stops... overall not a bad run for me...would probably have been an 11 min pace w/o the potty break which is good for me What would you do differently?: hold my bladder 30 more mins...(i'd been holding it since T1)...skip more of the water stops..didn't feel like i really needed them... Post race
Warm down: found my wife walked around waiting for transistion to open up...pancake line was to long so gaterade & a milky way from the gas station sufficed.. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'd like to blame my gear but maybe 5% was my antiquated gears and 95% was my lack of time on the bike using them... swim came down to OWS practice...or lack there off... Run went good and i'm happy with the pace... Event comments: This is my first time at the pewaukee race but it seems like they may be beyond capacity for the venue...got a little crazy....
