Age Group Rank = 20/31
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:00. Had some oatmeal. Couldn't eat much due to the nerves. I need to work on that for future races. I got to the event around 6:00. Picked up registration, setup transition, etc.
Event warmup:

Nothing.
Swim
  • 05m 46s
  • 300 meters
  • 01m 55s / 100 meters
Comments:

This went by fast! I felt good the whole time. I was right in line with what I thought it would take me. Maybe a few seconds faster. I was passed by one person, but passed two others at the wall. Overall, I felt really good about the swim.
Transition 1
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

I got through the change quickly, and started moving with the bike. But I was a little too tired from the swim to run with the bike and jump on. I could have saved a few seconds here, but I'm not too worried about it. Afterall, this was my first transition ever.
Bike
  • 51m 20s
  • 14 miles
  • 16.36 mile/hr
Comments:

I was slow! I've only been on my bike about a half dozen times. I've got a lot to learn. I just never felt like I could get going. The hills took a lot out of me. My limited training has been very flat, so I just wasn't prepared.
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on getting a lot more fluids in me on the bike. I really paid for that on the run.
Transition 2
  • 00m 46s
Comments:

I was biking in my running shoes, so this transition was no problem. Helmet off, race belt on, and I was gone.
Run
  • 29m 6s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

The heat was getting to me. There were not enough aid stations on the course. Just one at the turnaround. I didn't get enough fluids on the bike and I was getting too hot on the run. I had to walk two times for about 1 minute each. Mile markers would have also been very welcomed.
Post race
Warm down:

Got into the shade and started getting some fluids. I eventually cooled down and enjoyed one of the baked potatoes!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was my first Triathlon. I didn't know what to expect. I learned a lot at this race and have a much better understanding of what I need to work on.

Event comments:

Nothing to compare it to, so I can't really rate it. It wasn't on time due to weather, so no complaints there. I would like to see more fluid stations on the run if I were to do it next year. Overall, it was a great first triathlon!
