Swim
Comments: It was tough to settle down, had to breathe every stroke to get my bearings. I started on the inside lane, little tough with slower traffic in front, kept running into feet. Did settle down around the first turn, paired up with another swimmer about my pace and was able to maintain a steady stroke What would you do differently?: Settle down, come out of the main group to set my own pace. Need to practice every stroke breathing techniques instead of my every 3 or 4 stroke breath. Transition 1
Comments: Had horrible transition, couldnt make up my mind on what I wanted to wear...I think I took about 5-6 mins total. Had a windbreaker prepped with hammer gel and at the last minute decided not to take it. Decided at last minute to bring a camelbak, which took time. Also, instead of having shoes clipped into bike, walked with them on, not recommended. What would you do differently?: Shoes clipped into pedals No changes to configuration, go with what you set up Tape all hammer gels to bike, therfore not relying on pouches or pockets Jump on bike and pedal overshoes, until get feet set. Bike
Comments: Decent run considering wind and new pedals. My IT band issues flared up occassionally, then I backed off the pace. Kept a pretty good cadence and used my gears to keep the RPMS relatively stable. Had a hammer gel at start of race, 1 gatorade throughout, and hammer gel at 1 hour point. Washed that down with about 20 oz of water... What would you do differently?: Lose the camelbak, with water bottle trade outs, it's enough, add additional cage to bike if concerned. Dont try new pedals the day of the race, hard to get a feel for the bike Do more leg strengthening to alleviate knee issues. Transition 2
Comments: At dismount point, unclipped then took shoes off to get to transition area. Did not run due to having shoes in one hand and getting my crap together. What would you do differently?: Pull feet out of shoes and ride on top, at dismount run with feet already out Run
Comments: Had a decent run, felt some tigthmess in the lower back and in my calves...that worked well in absorbing the sun and relaxing my face. Was very relaxed, could have pushed the pace, but took it easy, had much to spare in the tank. Had 3 oz. of water at turn around and finished off half of a hammer gel...strong finish. What would you do differently?: Pick up the pace on the back half if feeling strong. Post race
Warm down: Did some stretching on the major muscle groups for about 10 mins. Did Trigger point massage and 30 minute stretch later in the day, helped recovery. What limited your ability to perform faster: IT Band pain. Not fully functionally, didnt want to push it. Horrible swim to bike transition...lost about 4-5 minutes. Event comments: Good race for our first complete Sprint Tri! Heart rate was definitely under control, averaged about 166...training with my HR monitor has paid off! Last updated: 2007-03-22 12:00 AM

Hit the porto crapper at about 0739, thankfully Ron had wipes!
Ran for about 2 mins, min stretching of the IT band and calves; did some arm windmills to get warm in the shoulders.
