Swim
Comments: Water conditions looked good, definitely not Lake Montclair but better than the Devilman in NJ. Spread out from the pack and set my own pace. Noticed HR was a little higher than last race, I think due to lack of training and medical issues over the last month. Decided I would push my HR in the high zone, since it was probably going to stay there. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 1
Comments: Did a full change...cycling jersey and socks...unfortunately before I left transition for the swim, a bike had fallen on my bike and two others, knocking them down. I did not check my chain, so at the mounting point after I clipped in, I almost ate it...chain was off. Needless to say, I was a little pissed and had to unclip and fix the chain. May have been the reason I pushed my usual pace... What would you do differently?: Check the bike once more before departing the transition area... Bike
Comments: Rode pretty consitently, used my cadence to set a good tempo and was consistent, pulled in a few riders on their expensive tri-bikes which always feels good. Did feel a big difference in riding position, a whole 1 mph difference. Thinking aero-bars is a huge advantage on flat, windy courses. What would you do differently?: Need to get my bike re-fitted...felt twinges in my knees, front and ITB band on the left...same knee as the PCL tear...but I think my bike is the culpript of irratation. Transition 2
Comments: Took my time in doing another complete change, socks, tri jersey, shoes etc. Just trying to get in the mindset of doing full changes... What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Pretty uneventful, ran without my knee brace...felt good, slowly increased speed to a good pace...too short a run for any comments...did leave some awesome sights to increase the pace. What would you do differently?: Nothing... Post race
Warm down: Walked for 10 minutes, drank water and then stretched... What limited your ability to perform faster: Kidney Surgery, 20 days prior PCL tear and possible meniscus tear in left knee 30 days of no training, minus last week of swimming and 2 bike rides. Event comments: For my brother's sake, the support for the late finishers was not there, running out of Gel packs and no massages for the later finishers in not good. These are the finishers who I believe need the most support. Race managers should be supporting the race fully, to the last particpant as long as they meet the cutoff times. For the sprint good support, however with the heat, the HIM support needs improvement. Last updated: 2007-03-22 12:00 AM

Watched UFC til about 1230 night prior (typical for my brother and me before a race!?). Woke up at 0500, had a cliff bar, and some gatorade and hit the toilets! Out to the transition area by 0645 and put our gear in order...had a few issues, almost forget my goggles and lost my heart rate monitor strap. We walked down to the swim start and placed our shoes for the swim to bike run, about 1/4 of a mile.
Since the HIM start was at 0720, waited til 0800 for the sprint start. Did a few windmill and stretches, nothing big...HR was up do to anxiety and lack of training over the last month. Had a few good discussions with some folks I met. Swam out to the wading start, about 150 m.
