  • Comments: Several aid stations were already run out of cold towels or water on the way back. I can't imagine what the people finishing behind me had to deal with. Myself and several friends had the run at 13.7 miles. While the RD tried to make light of it, I didn;t find it quite as funny. This is a decent small affordable event for your first Half Iron distance race.

  • Comments: I did this race last year and vowed never to do it again. Primarily because there was not enough water on the run, volunteers had left their stations early, there were no markers at the end showing you where to go (the last loop of the campground) and when I reached the finish line, they had already finished the awards (and I made it across the finish line in time for the awards had they been done at the published time), there was no food and the transition area was completely down. This year was a huge improvement. I loved the two loop course for both the bike and the ride. I had family in town and they were able to see me over the course of the race 5 or 6 times. It was great. Also, the run course was shaded and had TONS of volunteers and plenty of water and gatorade. The one shortfall is the food at the end of the race. There were only a couple sandwiches left (I did take one) and a few bags of chips. Nothing else. No drinks other than water. As soon as the award ceremony

  • Comments: Great race. though very dissapointed that the bike was 4 miles short. Now I can really accept this time as my HIM time because in reality it wasnt an HIM.....so dissapointing but I guess its a good confidence booster and has given my areas I need to work on before IM Arizona

  • Comments: I really enjoyed myself. As far as races go, this gave me that "no frills" feeling but there were plenty of volunteers and lots of police activity directing traffic. I would do this race again.

  • Comments: 4/5 rating would have been 5/5 if there were mileage markers out there...it's just such an important aspect in races, especially races as long s 70.3!!! The .4 mile run from the swim to T1 is also pretty damn long. Overall, it was AWESOME! How can I not love a personal best overall, bike, and run?...with a run negative split to boot!!! Shoe Goo rules!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe I'll get to 1,000 miles in these kicks with the help of Shoe Goo! :)

  • Comments: Nice race course - although it would be BRUTAL on a sunny, hot day. Great support on the bike and on the first half of the run. The second half of the run - folks had left and finish line activities was non-existent! I was pretty disappointed. I thought my time was going to get me in before the awards started and they were already finished by the time I got there. Apparently they started early. It is so demoralizing to come in and see everything packed up and ready to go - and there were still 15 people behind me! There was nothing to eat and nothing to drink. Showered at the campground bathroom and headed to Cracker Barrel for some grub.

  • Comments: I liked this race; felt it was well organized overall. I thought the course was nice, especially the bike. Lots of volunteers and police on the roads in the pouring rain, and hordes of boy scouts at the bottle exchange and run stops. I made sure to shout a thank you every time I saw them. It got off a couple minutes late, but I'll give them that given the monsoon. Race price was also good for a half; goodies were OK, with a tech shirt, a running hat, and a water bottle. I would do it again. As for my own performance, I learned a lot about my limitations and have a better idea of what it would take to get me further toward the front of the pack. This is a journey, and I have come a long long way since those first steps when I was 40. When I step back and look at it from the perspective that most of the 43 year old guys in my neighborhood can't run around the block, finishing in the front of the middle of the pack doesn't seem so bad. The best moment of the whole day was when

  • Comments: Without a doubt this race was one to remember. I just started training for triathlons 4 months ago after I wanted a challenge in my life and soon thereafter I caught the bug. I'm not officially obsessed and this was my 2nd triathlon, first half iron. I didn't know what to expect but mainly I wanted to use this as a race to show me what I needed to improve upon for next June (more on that below). I also wanted to gain more mental toughness because that was a big problem during my first tri. Needless to say I couldn't have been happier with how I performed and the race overall. The DDT race isn't a huge event but it was just right for what I wanted. I learned a lot about some points I need to work on and now I have a great base for next season. Thanks to my new obsession, I decided to sign up for Ironman CDA out in Idaho. Yes, it's probably the most foolish as well as amazing thing I have ever decided to do but each time I think about crossing that IM finish line I start to

  • Comments: A well organized race and plenty of volunteers. Post race food wasn't much but I guess I expected that. Sandwiches were pretty good. This was my first H.I.M. and it was a great challenge. I'll be ready for more next year!

  • Comments: This is a great course for a first Half IM. It is very flat. The transition area is far from the swim start/exit, which means you have to put on shoes after the swim and run 1/4 mile to transition. No biggie, just different. If I ever do another Half IM, I would probably do this one again just based on the course. Neil Semmel's races are always very well organized and have lots of volunteers. They were all great once again! I would recommend this race to any first time Half IM-er.

  • Comments: Races need to more family friendly as a whole. Spending that much time waiting for family members can be boring. Also having things for kids and inviting families to eat food will make it a better environment. From a racers standpoint, it was organized and everyone seemed to be happy with the way it went.

  • Comments: Feeling a little bit more confident about the IM given that I was able to push hard on the bike here and still feel good on the run. Hopefully my knees can hold up for the big day. This race was great, though. The weather was perfect and I feel like I really gave my all out there. Other than some walking on the run, everything I did was done hard and executed well.

  • Comments: Race was great. Volunteers were great. Post race was not one of Pirahna best shows IMO. Food was ok at best (small hoagies, water, coke, diet coke, pretzel and fruit chew packs..that's it) and they were breaking down at around the 6hr mark (race time) and there was no soda/water left by the 7hr mark (possible that they still had water at finish line but not in food tent).

  • Comments: I am thrilled. 150% glad I went for it. I am extremely happy with my times, especially given that I didn't train for this. I could have just gone back to State College Friday after I found out Patriot's was cancelled and I would have never known the difference. I stayed and met a bunch of great people, and made a great new friend in the process of the entire weekend. I shocked the heck out of myself and days later am still in total disbelief. I'm capable of far more than I think I am. I've often said my ability to perform is rarely physical, and for me is rooted in winning mentally. Despite the collapse in the run, overall I won mentally out there, which is what did it. Outstanding race and I am so grateful.

  • Comments: The course was good, and the race was fun. However, for a 1st HIM, I wanted a little more out of it. I am not into race swag at all, but the t-shirt, finisher's dog tag, post race food, were just plain lame. Nothing even said HIM? Not that important, but whatever, I wanted a lil love. I would be very weary of doing another Piranha event in the future due to the lack of organization and foresight. From the race director originally cutting the bike from 56 to 39 miles because of bridge work (luckily he was able to magically pull it off by simply having a few turn arounds), to the lack of bathrooms, and overall disorganized feeling, I didn't like it. Also, the environmentalist in me really didnt like that the water bottle "exchange" was just a place where they gave you a disposable Poland spring bottle. I was expecting an actual exchange, where they give you a full, re-usable bottle at the beginning, and you exchange it on the bike. Oh well.

  • Comments: After some confusion where the bike course was going to be shortened, race director was able to work with police/county to get the full distance back. they did run out of water on the bike leg for some racers though. need more volunteers, but they've advertised for that. next year, perhaps I'll help instead of race...but for a first timer, this was a great HIM to start with!

  • Comments: Piranha gets a B- for me today. Aid stations were runing out of stuff when I was going through, and there were lots of people behind me. I'm pretty sure some people got screwed on the bike if they were counting on bottle exchange. Lots of little things could be done much more efficiently in Piranha events... but overall, a decent race at a great venue.

  • Comments: I don't think I'll do this race again. Not because of the heat, but the course kind of bugs me. I don't like the long run to T1, and obviously have issues with the run course. I do really like the bike course and will use it to train on in the future. It's not a bad race, just not the one for me.

  • Comments: The race itself is average, the course is pretty dull and monotonous. There were plenty of volunteers and good police support, and the registration and packet pickup went well. There was no shortage of drinks and gels on the course. I met all of my goals, meaning I finished the race, broke 6:00:00, and turned in a 20mph bike ride. So that is a pretty good day, and not a bad way to finish up the 2007 triathlon season. I set a PR in all 3 triathlons I raced this year - Columbia Triathlon in May (Oly), Tri-to-Win Sprint in June (sprint), and Delaware Diamondman 1/2 Ironman.
