Swim
Comments: Given this was my first competitive OWS, I was pleased with the performance. What would you do differently?: Swim really aggressively right from the beginning. I was way to tentative for the first 200m. Transition 1
Comments: %$!^%$ wetsuit would not come off over my ankle with the chip on it. Was really annoying. Had to sit in the grass to take off my wetsuit. Took a Gu as well. What would you do differently?: Practice more with taking the wetsuit off. Bike
Comments: I settled into a comfortable pace and kept it up throughout the bike component. I should have read the distance before the race, since I thought I was going 13 miles, not 12, so I didn't ease into T2 like I planned. Additionally, this time I hydrated for the run while on the bike, so I wasn't cramping like at HFAC. What would you do differently?: Read the distances carefully- not all sprints are created equally. Put in more time on the bike. I should be able to keep a good 17-18 mile/hour pace on that course, given how flat it was. Transition 2
Comments: At least this time I didn't wear my helmet away from transition. What would you do differently?: I thought transition went pretty well, all things considered. Run
Comments: So either the mile markers were incorrect, or I took out really fast, but my first mile was 10:22, and then my 2nd mile was 11:25, a full minute slower, even though I felt like I was running faster. Did not walk at all, though, and again, it's apparent that my lack of run training days beats me in the end. Weirdly, my feet were completely number for the last 2 miles of the race. That can't be normal or good :) What would you do differently?: Train, train, train. There's no excuse for me running this slow of a pace over a 5k. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training since Hawthorn Farm. Mentally, I was in it, and never though about quitting, and pushed myself, but I really needed to train more so my body could respond. All in all, I had a great time, and given my lack of training and some of the newness of the OWS, I thought I had a really good race. Event comments: This is a really well organized race. I'll be back next year, guaranteed. Maybe even for the Olympic? Last updated: 2007-03-23 12:00 AM

Woke up about 5am, had a bagel, cream cheese, and OJ. PAcked my stuff and headed out to Troutdale. It was a really nice drive, sunny, and I thought "please no rain, please no rain..."
Set up my transition, met my fellow competitors, and met up with other friends who were competing. Walked around, gathered in the scene, drank a Red Bull about 90 mins before the race, and threw on my wetsuit.
