Swim
Comments: Overall the swim felt good. I felt fine in the water and just keep plugging away. I have not been focusing on the swim at all so, I was very pleased. I had a hard time swimming in a straight line and got hit LOTS! I was especially not psyched that the men left after the women so they came charging through. What would you do differently?: Swim more. Do more upper body strength training Transition 1
Comments: I was pretty slow in T1 and just wanted to make sure I had everything. What would you do differently?: Be more organized Bike
Comments: I felt great on the bike and had a cliff bar at the start. I drank all my water in my camel back and some in my bottle. I felt like I hydrated well and the nutrition worked out great. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I think I could have pushed it harder, but this was my first oly race and I didn't want to bonk. I finished the race and still felt like I had gas in the engine, so I was pleased. What would you do differently?: Train more. Do more bricks Post race
Warm down: Visited with a guy that I went to college with who was in town from Denver doing the race. RANDOM! Then I visited with my trainer briefly who was cheering me on at the end. Waited for Doug to finish and met up with some other BT folks. It was REALLY nice to know people at the race, thanks BT for allowing that to happen through getting to know people on the website. Oh yes, I also went to check out the results, couldn't find my name anywhere. I decided to go take a shower at the hotel and when I came back I realized that my name was on a different list since I won 3rd in the Athena category, YIPEEE!! Hardware on my first oly! Event comments: It would have been nice to have more food at the finish. This was the first time for the Playtri event and overall I thought it was a great race. I hope to do it again. Doug and I drove to Las Colinas on Saturday afternoon after our babysitter arrived. We missed the expo, but headed over to the pre race pasta dinner. Sat with Kirk (Markquiet), Sue (sportysue) and Reagan (rgill) and enjoyed getting to visit with some BT'ers. The dinner was good and the there were 3 speakers. The main speaker was HILARIOUS and told stories about doing the Hawaii IM in 1980 on a bike he bought at a police auction 3 weeks before the race. It helped put things in perspective! After dinner, we checked out the swim course. I had been getting progressively nervous all day, but it got better after the dinner and remembering that this was an event to go out and have fun. I hadn't even really thought about goal times. When I mentally calculated the numbers, I wanted to finish in around 3 and a half hours. Went to bed around 9:30, up at 5:45 and had a banana with PB and a Luna bar for breakfast.
First thing out of the hotel this morning, the wind felt like it was going to blow us over. Thankfully it calmed down a bit, but there were strong gusts throughout the whole day. After getting our transtition set up, Doug and I went out for a run warm up as prescribed by my trainer. We did 3 min easy, then 30 sec sprint and repeat that 3 times. Did some stretching and then headed over to get into our wetsuits and head down and watch the HIM start.
