Pre-race routine:

Woke up at about 4, couldnt get back to sleep, so I laid in bed and let my mind race until 4:45. Got up, packed my transition bag and bike and went downstairs and got breakfast. Fruit, coffee and a sausage biscuit. Rode to the site with mila and john and set up transition
Event warmup:

Just a little stretching and shivering because it was 40 sumptn degrees outside.

This swim was the worst I have had. It is apparent to me how much a wetsuit makes a difference. That said I was still slow. I always finish in the front half of the pack, and typically under 2:00/100 yds. It was not that big of a deal, and I felt fine the whole swim. I did keep a moderate pace and got out of the water feeling good, so I was set up for success going into the rest of the race, just dissapointed with the time.
What would you do differently?:

More OWS, get a wesuit, those people were flying past me!

Pretty good T1. I was efficient and spent an extra few seconds making sure I had everything for my long bike ride. Then I heard GO GO GO, so I went. Came in under my 2:00 plan

Really strong performance until the last 20 miles. I started out at a 20mph plus pace and was hammering hard- maybe too hard. I was passing people like crazy (making up for a poor swim) at about mile 18 my cage came loose, and the water bottle was dangling. I slowed to try to fix it while riding (I was not going to stop!). The water bottle handoff came up at mile 20 so I tossed it then, the the cage got locked into the pedal, so I bent it out of the way so it didnt bother me again. I kept a strong pace until the roads got rough again. Then saddle soreness started setting in and my lower back was getting sore. The I hit a patch of really rough pavement and got stuch in a headwind. That zapped me until about mile 50, when I cocked the hammer again. Overall this bike split was good, but I would have like to see a 19 mph avg
What would you do differently?:

Time in the saddle. Check the screws on the cages.

I felt pretty good on the run, but I knew I needed to keep the pace in check here and not blow up. I started conservative to get my running legs and then started feeling stronger as time passed. The cheering squad was great and by the second loop I was probably running my strongest. I did start ti fade a little by mile 10, but then realized I could finish in sub 6, so I paced off that perfectly. My IT band and calf were really hurting, and on the brink of cramping at mile 11, so I did not push it any harder than I had to until I was on the last .5 at the finish. The finish was a cruel joke, biggest hill on the run course, but I had no quit in me and sprinted up feeling strong
What would you do differently?:

I think all things considered I was right on target here. I just need to do some speed work and deal with some nagging injuries

Warm down:

Shower tent and lots of water. I was encrusted with salt, so I hung out in the shower tent for a while. Hung out at the namsc tent and cracked my celebratory fosters oil can.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I have not put in the minutes I would like to have with a new job, family responsibility and other things, but i did enough to do well and surpass my goals. I just have to get things settled so I can workout more without taking away too much from family time

Event comments:

Great race. I will probably end my season with this race next year. The roads suck a little, but they did the best they could with what they had im sure. Our club is awesome and really adds to the fun factor of this race. It was really cool to be with a bunch of other first timers, and everyone completed the race successfully- awesome.
