Run
Comments: Coming into this race I did not taper my workouts the week leading up to the race because I am pretty far behind where I want to be physically. I debated doing the 5K or 10K but ultimately decided on the 10K to see where I am currently at and also to get a time to shoot for in next year’s race. After deciding on the 10K, I set a goal of about 50 min., which I pretty much knew that was unrealistic in my current shape but thought I’d see what I could do. At the horn, I started my iPod and nothing. Spent the 1st ½ mile trying to get it to work but couldn’t so no music on this race. (Ugh) The start was pretty crowded this year and while I’d typically weave in and out to get clear of the pack, I decided to hang back and save the energy and try and make it up after things opened up some, besides, it was so packed in, I doubt I would have made up that much time. I hit the 1st mile around 11 minutes and pretty much knew the 50 min was done. I spent the next 2 miles around 7:45 pace trying to make up as much time as possible. I was feeling the effects of the last 2nd and 3rd miles and the pace dropped to about 8:15 for the last 3+ miles. What would you do differently?: Start closer to the front. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Got a late start on training for the season do to an injury in January. Event comments: Very well run race, will be on the schedule again next year. Last updated: 2007-03-30 12:00 AM
