Swim
Comments: I should have looked at the course map before I started; the course turned out to be triangular, but no worries. They did the waves in an odd order, however, so I ended up swimming through older men and women breaststroking slowly. This slowed me down. Navigation good, but the last leg of the triangle was straight into the sun. I couldn't see the swim-out until I was right up on it. What would you do differently?: More fast open-water swimming practice. Transition 1
Comments: Transition times are ammoritzied into the three legs. What would you do differently?: Need to order those new bike shoes with velcro, so that I can practice before Timberman! Body Glide my ankles. Bike
Comments: Felt GREAT on the bike today, though I dropped my chain once on a hill. My endurance has GREATly improved over the last month - thanks Coach! Did see a bad bike crash between a non-racer and a racer; Non-racing spectators: stay off the course! You ride erratically, and make it hard for us to predict what you're doing! BT Note: Saw Sunny on bike in - thanks for volunteering!! What would you do differently?: Up the cadence, keep up the climbing practice. Transition 2
Run
Comments: Woah...by trail run, they mean singletrack - yikes! My legs were sluggish the whole run. Gatorade instead of my regular electrolyte solution was a huge mistake. Cramping ensued, and Endurolytes didn't help. Pretty run course, wish I could have gone faster! What would you do differently?: Practice more running after fast/long rides, which is my focus between now and the 1/2. Train those legs to have faster turnover even when they are tired!! Post race
Warm down: Stretch, water, Endurolytes, swimming to cool off, repack bag, then walk around with Alison. What limited your ability to perform faster: More run training needed. Event comments: The race was a little unorganized: i.e. they made announcements about helmet stickers (there weren't any), they didn't announce the waves until we were in the water, and the food at the end was unusual (danish with icing, pound cake, and a warm watermelon). You could buy burgers, but I couldn't figure out where. Tons of great volunteers, though! A beautiful course, and fairly easy - no big hills on the bike. Giveaways included a cheap water bottle and a ring tee-shirt, plus some Hammer Gel and coupons. Parking wasn't too far away, and was clearly marked. One really neat thing was that, following the national anthem, we were treated to a Buddhist chant - maybe it was this that made me break my Sprint PR. : ) Last updated: 2007-03-30 12:00 AM

Drove 40 minutes from Manchester - easy drive. Registered, body marked, set up transition. Racks were a litte confusing, but soon everyone settled in. Took one gel, Gatorade Rain, 2 Endurolytes, stretched, walked around. For the first time ever, I forgot my watch at home, so I didn't wear my HR monitor.
Stretch, wetsuit on 20 minutes prior to the race, no formal warm up (should have swum). Saw Alison G. from my team, we chatted until the start.
