Overall Rank = 132/608

Age Group Rank = 10/27
Pre-race routine:

The usual. Bagel with peanut butter and a kashi granola bar with coffee on the way out to Montauk. I ate this breakfast about 2 hours before race time. Got to the race and set up the two separate transition areas (point to point tri). I got marked, picked up my chip and still had about 45 minutes to spare. So I just walked around a bit before getting my wetsuit on.
Event warmup:

Swam for a little while, maybe about 10 minutes or so. I was in the fourth wave so there was a bit of time to wait.
Swim
  • 18m 50s
  • 875 yards
  • 02m 09s / 100 yards
Comments:

Overall, a pretty good swim. I think that the time includes part, if not all, of the run up the beach into T1, so my actual swimming time was a bit less. I am pleased with my effort level, sighting and technique. I have come a long way in swimming.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing except maybe get a bit better at sighting and be a bit more aggressive.
Transition 1
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

Great T1, very fast for me.
Bike
  • 40m 56s
  • 14 miles
  • 20.52 mile/hr
Comments:

Great ride, super fast especially on one of those descents. I topped out at 37mph.
What would you do differently?:

I want to start paying attention to cadence more, maybe get a meter. I notice a lot of the elite types passing me seemed to be working so much less.
Transition 2
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

Great T2
Run
  • 28m 2s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Decent run. I have gotten faster and I think that running slower in training has paid off. My knee felt a lot better than it has recently, so that made me feel good and helped me through the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and had some fruit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to get faster at running. I don't know how much more room for improvement there is though. I worked really hard this past off-season trying to improve my swim and I have been able to reap the rewards. I don;t know, maybe I will try to do the same with running this off-season.

Event comments:

Great race, great course, great people. Probably my last sprint race though.

Course: Point to Point and some fast roads. The wind was awesome when it was at your back, but horrible when you were heading into it. Wind just sucks, by far, my least favorite weather element. The course is beautiful though and there were may volunteers and cops to stop traffic and make you feel safe.
