Swim
Comments: I kept finding myself going wide around the course. Not much traffic out there, but it made for a longer swim. I felt like I was swimming pretty well, but my time was slower than I expected. What would you do differently?: Need to work on sighting so I can better stay on course. Transition 1
Comments: This was my first time trying to transition out of my wetsuit. My legs started cramping while struggling to get my feet out. I had lubed up as best I could with body glide on my legs and forearms, also lubed the outside of my wetsuit around the ankles and wrists before swimming. Not sure how much of that stayed on through the swim. What would you do differently?: Some of my friends used cooking spray under their wetsuits, I wonder if that would work better? I would also like to learn how to get onto my bike while maintaining some forward motion, cyclocross-style perhaps. Bike
Comments: Going into this race I felt like I hadn't trained enough on my bike. Turns out the bike was my best segment. Go figure. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Just need to move a bit faster. Run
Comments: Oh man, this run was HARD for me. I did the 5k trail run leg of the MTB tri on the day before this race and really pushed myself for that. When it came time for this run, my legs were dead. After about 2 miles, I started to settle in and feel better. But still, I had to walk several times and was really disappointed by that. What would you do differently?: I'm going to work my bike-to-run transition some more. Post race
Warm down: Walked around through the transition area drinking water, then went to the finish to cheer on my friends who were finishing. What limited your ability to perform faster: It was hot, and I was tired from the MTB Relay the day before. Event comments: Had a great time and plan to come back next year. Woke up at 5:00am, ate some oatmeal and a banana. Setup my transition area, and then wandered around talking to friends, etc. Watched the Pro's start and watched some friends start the swim with the relays. I was #619, so it took quite awhile before I actually started due to the staggered start.
None. Didn't get there early enough to get in the water before the Pro's started.
