Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30 a.m. Had a breakfast of a banana, bagel with almond butter and a power bar. Drank water and coffee on my way to the race. Took care of business at the McD's right when you get off I95. Had picked up the race packet the day before so got to tranisition around 5:45 a.m.
Event warmup:

Stretched prior to putting on my wetsuit.
Swim
  • 17m 30s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

My best swim this season. I still have issues with sighting and I tend to swim to my right because I got off course twice. If I swam straighter, I think my time would have been even lower. Sleevless wetsuit made a big difference in my swim over my full sleeve suit. A number of people have said the course was set long. Hard to tell. If that was the case, then my swim time was my best thusfar this season.
What would you do differently?:

Work on sighting. Improve endurance and speed, however, overall no complaints with this swim.
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Good first transition. Got my wetsuit half off and cap off half way up the beach. Moved pretty quickly and got my socks, shoes and helmet on. Rinsed my mouth out and grab a gel to start off on the bike with.
What would you do differently?:

Improve my speed.
Bike
  • 50m 40s
  • 15.7 miles
  • 18.59 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike. I handled the hills pretty well though I continue to want to work on my speed while climbing.
What would you do differently?:

Drink a little less.
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

Very good second transition. Could have been a touch faster but when I racked my bike the bike on the otherside of the rack fell off and I stopped to pick it up. Also took a long swig from the bottle of HEED left in my bike.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Avoid knocking some one elses bike!
Run
  • 25m 10s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run though I need a 30 second nature break in the first couple of hundred yards. Drank a bit too much on the bike (probably some sea water too!). Otherwise, the run felt good. The last mile and half I felt like I was in a good zone and moving well. Not wild about the finish on the beach in this race.
What would you do differently?:

Avoid having to take a nature break.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around. Banana. Bagel. Water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing other than the need to train more. I had no major issues in this race.

Event comments:

This is a fun, low key, low tech race that is very well run. I enjoy this course. Bike is a bit long for a Sprint with some nice hills. Run is a flat trail run that runs fast.
