Swim
Comments: My first lap sucked as I came in and saw that the time elapsed was 50 min! Then I saw my support crew and kicked it into high gear and came in at 1 hr 30 min! I dropped that first loop from 50 mins to 40 mins! What would you do differently?: I would have dolphin dived my entry into the water and I would've swam faster the first lap. But overall, I felt good with my first Ironman swim! Transition 1
Comments: T1 could've been faster but I consider it good for my first Ironman. What would you do differently?: Just get faster Bike
Comments: I was doing great until mile 60. I had to stop and pee and the line had dropped my average mph from 18.3 to 17.6. From that point on, the winds picked up from around mile 65 to 80 and dropped my mph further down to 17.0. I picked it back up from mile 90 to 100 since there was little wind and I picked it up further from 100 to 112 since there was a tailwind. Overall, my average mph was 17.1 and I was happy about that. What would you do differently?: In the future, more rides, more hills, more everything to get faster and stronger. For the race, I think I did the bike course exactly the same. Transition 2
Comments: I couldn't find my body glide and I realized that it was in my special needs bag. I had to borrow someone's vaseline and that cost me some time. What would you do differently?: I would better prepare my gear bags. Run
Comments: I went out of T2 a little to fast. The first mile I ran an avg 7:50 min mile and the second mile I was around the 8 min mark. I finally took it down to a 9:30 mile there after. Around the 8 mile mark I felt pain in my left knee. I stopped to do a quad stretch and my hamstring immediately cramped up! Holy shit! That happened in the past and I thought I was done. A volunteer asked if I was okay and I replied yes. I walked a little and shook off the cramp and I knew I had to run to the next aid station and stretch it out. I did so and my strategy from that point was to run to each aid station, eat, stretch, and apply cold wet sponges to my left knee and left hamstring. That strategy lasted me the whole race and rewarded me with a 4 hr 37 min marathon! What would you do differently?: Start off slower and get stronger! But for that day, it was all good! Post race
Warm down: Walk, walk, walk! What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing. I performed at the level I was capable of. Event comments: This was my first Ironman and I will cherish the memories forever! Last updated: 2007-04-24 12:00 AM
