Swim
Comments: it was kinda nice doing a tri swim basically by myself for laps 2 & 3 (team laps 3 & 5). a few other people in the water, but we were VERY spread out. i was so goot at sighting, that on the second lap i looked up to sight and 'POOOF' my face was right in the orange balloon!!!! hee hee. What would you do differently?: nothing. Transition 1
Comments: took my time. its a 10 hour race, after all. after 2nd and 3rd swim, i had to pee from having overdid it with the HEED. hee hee. What would you do differently?: drink less HEED? i dunno. i never cramped through the whole race. guess i'd rather take 5 minutes to pee than drop out early due to cramping. Bike
Comments: tail wind on the way out the first lap, then uphill and into the wind on the way back. still averaged 21.5 for that first lap (24+ for the first half). wind shifted by my second lap, a slight headwind on the way out, and then a slight tail wind. this was much better, since it was so much easier to get speed going on the way out, but hard work on the way back. last lap average was in the high teens. slow for me, but i was getting tired by then. What would you do differently?: nothing Transition 2
Comments: again, bathroom breaks. Run
Comments: felt pretty good considering how little i've been running in the last two months (that's not at all 'cept last weekend. hee hee). What would you do differently?: nothing Post race
Warm down: warm-down after each lap. tagged off to kelly, then went and made a pb&j, drank some heed, and put on warm up clothes. it was so cold outside, i ended up going in and sitting by the fire a lot and read my 'roller girls' book. made a few phone calls when i had a signal (when talking to my friend sarah, i was cutting out and she asked 'did you move? you're cutting out.' i replied 'no. i'm in the boonies with an awful signal. a bird probably shat overhead and disrupted the little signal i had' hee hee). when i had 15 minutes left, i got my stuff laid out again, got into my wetsuit, and got read to go again. after my last lap, i changed clothes, loaded stuff inthe truck, and took pictures of kelly coming and going. hung out for the awards ceremony. got a cool hand thrown ceramic mug. kelly will post pictures. What limited your ability to perform faster: um, not doing any tri training for 2 months????? Event comments: my splits are guesstimates, since i didn't do splits on my watch, and we were only timed for out total lap (so, one spint course). took a LOT of time in transitions. my overal time was almost exactly 5 hours. this race would get a 5 if it were not for the price and the lack of flexibility with refund/registration transfer. Then again, it does go ALLLLLLL day long...and i had a ton of fun doing it with Kelly (miss 'i'll never do more than a sprint' who then did 3 in ONE DAY!') i'd do it again for sure. didn't go too balls to the wall because i wanted to keep my pace easy both so that i could continue to do laps as needed, and since i knEW I'd have my first roller derby league practice the next day and didn't want DOMS or shin splints. today - i can tell i did something, but am really not that sore. we were 3/5 for the female 2-person team. 9/15 for the 2-person teams (including all female, all male, and co-ed). and 22/31 for teams in general (including 2-person and 3-person). 30/59 overall (including the soloists). the top woman did as many laps as kelly and i did in the same time - all by herself! 2nd place woman soloist only did 2 laps, so lots of the team women did more laps than she did. kelly will post pics in her race report. lap times: Team Ginger Slaps ; Autumn Connell , Kelly Czech Total Time = 10:29:48 1: 1:35:08 (Autumn) 2: 1:43:11 (Kelly) 3: 1:41:25 (Autumn) 4: 1:49:34 (Kelly) 5: 1:43:43 (Autumn) 6: 1:56:49 (Kelly) Last updated: 2007-04-27 12:00 AM

once we were in duluth, we dropped off my girls with my folks and headed across the border to superior, wisconsin. the race was in pattison state park just outside of town. we picked up race packets, attended the manditory meeting, then drove to canal park to get some pasta...and ice cream. headed to bed. up at 5am. loaded the truck up with our gear, had some grape nuts, and headed back to pattison park. set up our tent transition area. before we knew it, it was count down time!
nada, other than a little stretching and wrestling with my wetsuit which hasn't been used all year.
