Run
Comments: Its a long story, but 45 min in a 5k has always been a defining time between walking & running. Though I have been working on distance, I haven't done any 5ks outside of tris...and my tri pace has been about a 50 min 5k. My goal for today was mainly to break 45 min. My secondary goal was to keep running...through the whole race. In '05 continuous running would net me a little over 40 min, but that was a while (and a few pounds) ago. I'm proud to say that I did keep running (well, jogging) the entire time! I even managed to take in some fluids in those little paper cups while continuing to run. I felt great until about mile 2.5. I really, really wanted to take a little walk break there, but forced myself to keep running. It felt great to do that, knowing that I'd make my 45 min goal...even if I walked a little, but to push to get the best time I could get. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Got a massage from Massage Envy. I think they switched that little 90 lb waif girl with a linebacker once I closed my eyes.....she was POWERFUL! What limited your ability to perform faster: excess weight, lack of genetic talent :-) Event comments: I'm giving the race an overall low rating because the thing that was most important (TIME) was completely overlooked. They didn't have timing chips and didn't even START their clock when the gun went off. At the end, the 'clock time' was two minutes longer than my Garmin. I think the race went off a few min early, and then later they realized that the clock wasn't started and set it somebody's watch. What a mess. There were about a thousand runners, at $20 a piece, the $20,000 should have gotten better attention to timing. At the end we had to write our times on a little card...that's kind of ridiculous for such a large event. Last updated: 2007-05-03 12:00 AM

Ate a clif bar about 1.5 hours before. Parking was crazy. The volunteers directed us to a parking garage that was full. They were continuing to send folks into this parking garage and we were winding all the way to the roof, to have to come back down. Madness. Found parking in some attorney's office.
Jogged a little.
