Swim
Comments: I swam ok in this. I can go faster, but not in open water. Seems I have a bit of a problem siting. I do ok if I sight every 2 or 3 strokes but it's hard to get into a rhythm doing that. What would you do differently?: sight more. Transition 1
Comments: Took a little extra time to dry off since it was pretty cool out. Didn't want to get chilled on the bike. What would you do differently?: Get my wetsuit off faster. It got stuck on my calves and my heels. Didn't have this problem at my last tri using the wetsuit. Maybe my calves are bigger? Bike
Comments: This is the part where I didn't do as good as expected. I had done 56 in 3:30 during training, but on a course with fewer hills and on a day with no winds. And with pee breaks and leg stretches every 20 miles (where I stopped my watch) so doing a continuous 56 is a bit different. Usually in races I am significantly faster than my training pace. This is not one of those times. I truly gave it all I could and still was one of the slowest women out there. I mean, I only beat the last place biker by 17 minutes. And a dude on a mountain bike passed me. That was somewhat demoralizing. But, I stuck it out and I am glad I did. I have a lot of work to do on the bike, but I know I can get better if I work as hard on it as I have on my run. I was disappointed at how I felt off the bike. I think I could have felt fresher. What would you do differently?: Ummmmm.... Be faster? Transition 2
Comments: eh, an average T2. I took a little extra time to get my gels in my pockets and to wipe my face off. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: This is where I did as good as I expected to. My time includes a stop at a porto-potty where I had to wait for the porto-potty to become unoccupied. Don't know how much time I lost, but it was at least a minute, maybe 2-3 minutes. I walked the aide stations, and once after running up a hill (and my coach happened to catch that) but ran the rest of the time. Slow is steady. Steady is smooth. Smooth is fast. And I picked people one at a time and reeled them in and passed them. And you know what, even as slow as I thought I was going, I only was off my half mary PR by 6 minutes, and that includes the potty stop (which had to be done, I had been holding my pee for over 2 hours!) I also had a blood blister on my right big toe from favoring my instep on the cambered roads because too much pressure was hitting my broken right pinky toe. Ouch! That is the first run blister I've gotten in at least a year or more. What would you do differently?: I think I could have had a half mary PR if my legs hadn't been so trashed from the bike. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, turned in chip. Got the food being offered. Grilled chicken sandwich and pasta salad and chips. The sandwich was not good. They could have done better with the food. What limited your ability to perform faster: Sighting on the swim and strength/fitness on the bike. Event comments: My first HIM. I have a hard time believing that in a matter of 9 months I will be able to do twice the distance. But my coach assures me I will be able to. Overall I guess I should be pleased. I finished with a smile, standing, and not in the med tent. Finishing is half the battle. Last updated: 2007-05-05 12:00 AM

Drove to Lake Greenwood- about an hour drive. Ate my clif bar and drank my diet coke. Went to packet pick up. Had fun talking to Barqhead. Trying to get rid of my pre-race jitters. Had them so bad I wasn't able to sleep the night of the race.
What's a warm up?
