Swim
Comments: I didn't feel good about my swim at all today. I had trouble getting comfortable, the wave was TOO big, and I didn't like the deep water start. I really felt disoriented for almost the entire swim and never really got into a rythym. I am suprised my time wasn't worse than it was (which is positive, because I felt like I could have gone a lot faster). What would you do differently?: I definitely need some more open water experience and to practice with my wetsuit. Transition 1
Comments: This has to be the worst transition I could have imagined. With how long it felt like I fought with my wetsuit and tri top, I am amazed it wasn't the slowest transition time in the field. What would you do differently?: I definitely need to practice this transition, especially getting my wetsuit off. The minute I should have saved here will have moved me up like 10 more places. Bike
Comments: Overall I am very pleased with this ride. I knew coming into the race that I definitely have not put in enough time in the saddle and have plenty of room for improvement. With that being said, I think I rode very well based on the amount of training I have done. What would you do differently?: Train more!!!! I need to up my overall mileage and extend my longer rides (I think my longest ride this year is like 22 miles...pretty sad) Transition 2
Comments: Overall not a terrible transition. No major problems, just lack of practice. What would you do differently?: Practice, practice, practice. I need to get some elastic laces for my shoes, that would have probably saved 20 seconds. Run
Comments: I feel very good about this run. When I left the transition, my legs felt a little trashed from the bike and were kind of stiff. However, they loosened up in the first half mile and I realized that I had a pretty good pace going, because I was passing a lot of people climbing up the first big climb. The mile markers weren't well marked so I didn't take mile splits, but I felt like I ran a really even race. What would you do differently?: Do more brick workouts in practice (I did none). Other than that...NOTHING. I am pleased with my run, because in an open 5K 2 weeks ago, I ran 19:44. Only running about 45 seconds slower is pretty good in my mind. Post race
Warm down: Did some light jogging and light stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor transitions cost me possibly 2 minutes. Training has not been ideal as I have only been swimming about once or twice a week and I have not put in enough time in the saddle. Event comments: Didn't like the deep water start, because of treading water for 2-3 minutes. Very good race, will do again, and would recommend! Last updated: 2007-05-06 12:00 AM

Got up early so that I could take my time this morning. I loaded up the car the night before so that I wouldn't have to bother with that. I ate a bagle and drank a bottle of water. I stopped on the way to the race and got a small cup of cofee.
When I arrived at the race site I began getting my stuff together and took my time setting up the transition area. I continued to drink water, ate a power bar around 8AM, and had my prerace BM.
I did a few miles on the bike and planned on doing some light running, but ran a little short on time, so I went down to the lake to warm-up in the COLD water.
