Swim
Comments: I was hoping to come in at 18 minutes, so this was a bit of a disappointment. At least I knocked 2 minutes off last year's time. I started too far out to the left I think, but basically I'm just a very slow swimmer. Yeah, I need to work on that. What would you do differently?: Start closer to the right. Try and draft more. Swim faster? Transition 1
Comments: T1 excluded the 1/2 mile run from the lake to the T1 area. I was pretty fast in T1, actually, it's just that the area was about 100 yards long, so it took a long time to run with my bike out of it. It was single file, so I was kind of stuck. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Good ride. 19.8mph versus 17.2 last year. Nearly broke a top 10 for the first time, by 3 seconds. I rode pretty strong, but it took me a while to get my legs. Felt strong at the end. What would you do differently?: Push harder. Drink water, not Powerade. Made me sick. Transition 2
Comments: Lost at least a minute, since I couldn't find my bike. Although they had us rack by number, they didn't think to actually put some kind of big number signs on the end of the rack. What would you do differently?: Memorize where my bike was. This mistake cost me a couple spots in the overall, and definitely 1 spot in my group. Run
Comments: Well, 16/27 in my age group isn't too bad for me. I could have gone harder; 2 from my AG passed me in the last 1/2 mile, which was bad. It's all a mental thing for me, fighting the pain. What would you do differently?: Again, train more and push more. I was unable to do a lot of running in the 3 weeks prior to the race due to some injuries. I also simply need to learn/practice to run faster, plain and simple. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Level of fitness. Some mental mistakes (T2). I improved a lot from last year (3 minutes faster in swim, 3 minutes faster on the bike, and nearly 4 minutes faster on the run), so I'm heading in the right direction. Event comments: This will be the last time I race this tri, unless they change the venue. They had about 300 more participants this year and simply outgrew the venue. You have to take buses into the park or ride in (and out), which is 3 miles. The transition area was a nightmare, literally over a hundred yards long by about 15 feet. No room for spectators; they really have to move this. They've been a product of their own success. Last updated: 2007-05-07 12:00 AM
