Swim
Comments: Swim felt pretty good, but I had to slow and stop when rounding the bouys, to wait for other swimmers. What would you do differently?: Maybe take a line a little more outside so as not to have to wait for others to round bouys. Transition 1
Comments: The transition was under at least 6 inches of water, so I ran with my bike shoes, and sat down on some relatively dry ground outside of transition to put them on. What would you do differently?: Move faster. Bike
Comments: Roads were still wet from the downpour earlier in the morning. Slowed down for the turns, so I wouldn't wipe. My back got stiff around mile 10, probably because I didn't warm up or strecth before the race due to the weather. What would you do differently?: Warm up before race start, and then ride harder. Transition 2
Comments: Transition was still rather soupy. Ran through the slop with my bike, and T2 was ok, but I stopped to finish my bike water bottle before taking off. Also dropped my gel bottle, and had to fish around in the water to find it. What would you do differently?: Don't drop stuff in six inches of murky water. Run
Comments: I really crashed on the run. The first mile was ok, around 7:30 pace, and the second was the same. I got to the first water spot, around mile two, and just crashed. Had to walk through the water station (and all others) and was really just hurting. Also, my left ankle was clicking, and was painful. Haven't had this problem in at least 10 years. Also, there weren't enough water stations on the course, which could really have been a problem if it were as hot as forcast. What would you do differently?: Need to do more brick training. Post race
Warm down: Drank some water and hugged the kids. Forgot to strecth as always, and my back remains really stiff. What limited your ability to perform faster: Crashing during run. Lack of sufficient distance and brick training. Event comments: Volunteers were friendly, but there were not enough drink stations on the run, and none on the bike. Would like to see more. I got up early, ate a hammer bar, and drank some HEED. It was pouring outside when I left home, and this caused the RD to cancel the Olympic swim, and delayed the start of the race by more than an hour and a half. Everyone had to swim the sprint swim. It really rained hard, and the transition area was under nearly six inches of water and mud. Everything got soaked, and I put my wetsuit on in the rain just to stay warm. Had to take a shuttle to beach start location, waited there, learned swim was cancelled, and then shuttled back to sprint swim start. RD did a good job of organizing all swimmers by race number in sprint swim area, and when race finally started, all swimmers were in the water pretty quickly. I weighed in for Clydesdale on Saturday, but the RD didn't put my times in with the. I finished 5th of 18 in that category.
None, and this was a problem when I got to the bike. I need to warmup and strecth consistently before races.
