Swim
Comments: Found the start difficult as I don't like being in the crowd, but eventually found a space the got going. More breast stroke than I wanted, but I did more crawl than last time and did pass a bunch of folks. On the way back, I started heading away from the course, but caught it pretty quickly. What would you do differently?: Just swim way more. Need to do more than 1,000 yards and more often Transition 1
Comments: I wore flip flops to the swim start, which was great as the ground is somewhat rough and rocky. Glad I did; I think it made the run back easier. Had some Gatorade and sport beans. It feels like it was slower than the Philadelphia Women's Tri earlier this year, but I haven't checked that. Had some time getting my feet into my shoes and my shirt over my head; I had to take it off and do it again because it got tangled. What would you do differently?: Unlace my shoes more. Practice Bike
Comments: Very speedy on the way down, averaging about 19-20 mph, passing a lot of people. Got slammed with a headwind at the turn around (guess that's why I was going so fast on the way down!) so the average speed went down. Still passed a lot of folks, though. Got into a great rhythm towards the end. What would you do differently?: Not much. Get a better bike. Transition 2
Run
Comments: Official pace is 9:32. Great running weather. Clear and cool, but not cold. Not much wind. My legs felt a little heavy going into the run, probably because I had pushed the bike pretty hard, but I did OK. I had drunk a lot before the race, during transitions and on the bike, so didn't need to stop at the water stops. Just kept going at a basic speed. What would you do differently?: Just need to run more. Post race
Warm down: Not much. Did some stretching as we hung around to see our 101 team members come in. Drank water, ate sport beans, had a donut (thanks, Mary!). Probably could have done more stretching but I feel OK at this point. Event comments: Seemed pretty well organized to this newbie, though there was a long check in line to get onto the Coast Guard base. Also, the start was delayed by a good 15-20 minutes. Definitely need to get there early to get a bike rack space and check things out. Bring hat, gloves and socks with toes next time, especially if it's cold. They weren't great about enforcing the rules about non-competitors in the transition area and no iPods. Expo the day before was excellent. Food at the end was marginal, though there was lots of water. I will definitely do this again. Last updated: 2007-05-13 12:00 AM

Up at 4:20 or so, dressed, put in contact lenses, etc. Had granola and yogurt, got to the car just before 5.
It was COLD. After racking and bike and getting my stuff ready, I walked to the swim start and felt the water, back to the bike (so I could find it from the swim return), then to the bike start and to the run start with Diane, who I had met at the Expo on Saturday and who was racked right next to me in wave 3. When the music started, I started dancing and stretching, mostly to warm up. Lots of greetings to my fellow 101ers from the Summit YMCA.
